What Do Snails Taste Like

2016-10-21 13:15:07 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

Yes. I ate them once when I was three (apparantly) and cant remember what they taste like, but apparantly they all frothed up in my mouth and I got green snail foam all over my clothes, and the house.

I recommend your snails cooked - avoid the raw garden variety. I'm sure they'd be much better in a marinade.

Yes at The Paris Mullen Rouge, My wife found that she had an allergy to them, her face swelled up in a big way and she had a major rash covering her whole body, I tried 1 and was fine, It was typically a whelk or a mussel, in texture and taste.
My wife still eats escargot from time to time and she's OK.
It must have been a bad one.
Eaten by themselves with lots of garlic.

Hell yeah, snails taste great in a garlic and mushroom sauce.

Try it, it's the only way to find out if you like it or not...

They are similar to mussels.

They have little flavour on their own, it is all about the sauce they come in. So, when the french cook them they take on the flavour of the sauce.

Be careful if you cook them yourself though to clear out the `poo-sacks` from the snail as these can be poisonous.

Yes. They are a bit chewy and have a very mild flavour - if it wasn't for the garlic sauce they're served with they would have barely any taste at all!

I have read all the answers above out of curiosity because I would not eat them myself. It does bring one question to mind. Why oh why would you eat something like that when they have no taste of their own? I mean, I can drink the garlic-lemon-french-butter-sauce or whatever, so why subject yourself to eating SNOT?

Yes. They don't have much flavor themselves, and tend to acquire the flavor of what they're cooked with, especially when it is that French garlic butter. It is very, very good.

I had them served in shells in a Parisian restaurant many years ago, and have had them a couple of times since.

Yes. They taste like rubber bands in garlic sauce. I eat them with tongs.

I have had snails fried, called a conche fritter. It was delicious with the horshradish (not spelled right) sauce they served it with. Highly recommend them
