What is a currant?

I am eating a scone...and it says it is "organic orange and currant"....what the heck is currant? is it that raisin looking stuff? Is it just another way to say raisin?

he blackcurrant is a temperate shrub which produces small edible berries with a high natural vitamin C content, which are very dark purple in colour, almost black, hence the name. Like the other true currants (not to be confused with the Zante currant, a type of grape which is often dried), it is classified in the genus Ribes.

Blackcurrants have a very sweet and sharp taste. They are made into jelly, jam, juice, ice cream, cordial and liqueur. In the UK, Europe and Commonwealth countries, some types of confectionery include a blackcurrant flavour, but this is generally missing in the United States, even within the same brand.

A currant is a small berry, full of vitamin C - very popular in the UK & Europe (not so much in the USA).

Kinda like a raisin, but better.

A friend of mine has Currant growing in yard.....it just showed up one day....seed in bird doo probably....nice plant.

They can be red or a deep maroon (almost black). They are not flavored like a grape at all. They have a completely different taste, They are the size of a maine blueberry.

as far as i know,currant is a fruit very much like grapes only it is dark in color

a berry of a huge tree.the lipote of the philippines is the best currant.though not really taste good but very good for health cause it kills cancer cells!
