you're lucky you were close to her. Many people don't get to experience that. This is perfectly normal. You must be pretty close if you feel bad about stuff you may not want to tell her. Kids go through this stage all the time. It doesn't get better until you are both older and wiser. Be grateful. When I was 17 my mother and I used to fight all the time, because we were so different, and the fact that she just got remarried, had a kid and I no longer felt like part of the family. bit crap really!

I had the same thing... I was very close to my mum for ages and when I got to about 17, we fell out often and I felt uncomfortable in her presence.
Then at 18 I moved out to study in another city and distance did us really well, we became close again.

Yes it is normal. Its a part of our inborn programming to distance ourselves from our parents so that we human beings strike out on our own and see what the world is really like

at this age, you feel the need to break free from your parents and it's normal to feel not as close to your parents as you used to be. however, you need to understand that your parents are constantly looking out for you and advising you on this b'coz they have been through your age period. they have done mistakes and hoping that you will not follow their mistakes. try to understand them and you will slowly coming closer back to them. you need to explain your feelings and intentions to your parents to ensure that they understand you and trust you with your own judgment. try to have more meaningful communications and you will see that it's just a normal phase that all teenagers go through.

It is good that you "free" yourself from your mom. Its the meaning of growing up, being independent. Allthough its nice and important to have a close and open relationship to her - not meaning best friends but mom-daughter.
