I think it would be better to give a gift at the start of the date when you pick her up, then she could leave it at home. Then she'd come home and see the gift and think about what a wonderful evening it was.

I would think you are needy if you gave me a gift on the first date. So I wouldn't give you a second date. Depending on what the gift is and where you go on the first date and how long, yes it could be a pain to carry it around.

Its not something that i would expect, but it is really nice getting a gift at the end of the date so that you don't have to carry it around but just carry it into the house. My husband did just that, he gave me a teddy bear - kind of a big one too. He was my only date that gave a sweet gift on the first date.

Actually, now that you said it, a rose is a pain in the *** to carry around. I think if you wanted to get a rose, take your date to the fair or dinner. Buy her a rose at the end of the night.. or if at dinner, go ahead before the date, buy a rose, and take it to the resturant. Most places will bring it with desert if you ask nicely.

It depends on what you plan to do. Buy flowers and have them delivered to your table at the restaurant. It will both utterly delight and totally embarrass her and she will fall into your arms in confusion! That's not a good idea, though, if she suffers from hayfever or if you are going clubbing after!
