How about giving him a kiss & a cuddle and telling him how much you love him, how much you appreciate what he does for you and what a great Dad he is... that would probably work.
Actually why not do that every day and make his present last all year.??

Give a power tool, ( cordless drill, Power booster for he's car, battery charger, etc). Any tool that will help get things done around the house or car.
That way he will remember you when he needs, that tool. And maybe have that tool engrave will short note to him, ( Love you Dad).

My father would be very grateful for a book, so I guess I can't really help you with that one! Get him something that is of interest to him personally.
