I was in Iraq during Operation Desert Storm. It was bleak. After the war ended, many, many, many families were left homeless. We had hundreds of Iraqi soldiers surrendering to us every day, just to get some food. We helped many Iraqi families flee from Iraq into Saudi Arabia. The skies black from all of the oil fields burning in neighboring Kuwait. I lost a good friend there.

My husband was deployed to iraq for a year and just came home this past dec. He always said it was vary hot, lots of bugs and critters, nothing but sand. There were always iraqis there who supported them being there but it also depends on what part of iraq your in.

I was there in 2003-04. The people were nice but very poor. They have lots of old buildings to look at. Their culture is rich and very different. Unfortunately I am forgetting my Arabic that I learned.

i lived there more than 40 years till last year.
as a geography, mountains like switzerland, wide sahara, lovely marshes with plenty of birds, orchards and orchards and orchards.people are normaly fraindly and hospitable, mostly cultured and intelligent.some of them are astonishingly brilliant.very rich country in culture and history.climate very hot at summer, freezing at winter, plesent at fall and spring, some sand storms, but not all over the country.cities especially baghdad were highly developed, very rich country in every thing till 1980 the begining of wars, you wouldnt find a begger or a refugee who sleeps in the streets.their food is very rich and tasty,it is influanced by the turkish kitchen.very high standard of education and living.exellant public services.it was the jewel of the middle east.every thing started detoriating after the4 desert storm in 91,the 12 years sanctions affected everything in the country and turned it into a poor one.what ever was left, was destroyrd after the invassion in 2003.now it is rubbles, heaps of garbages, traffdic jamings everywhere, poverity, bad public services(if they exist)lots of its treasures and antiques were looted.its history was looted.ethics had gone.it is probably worse than it was after holako, the mongols invation.
