"Community Employment and the One-Parent Family Payment
Lone parents can take part in the Community Employment Programme administered by FÁS if they are getting an OFP payment for at least 12 months and are aged over 25 (for the one-year Part-Time Integration Option). For the Part-Time Job Option, which lasts 3 years, you must be over the age of 35 and have been getting a Lone Parent Allowance/OFP for at least 3 years. This scheme involves working for 39 hours per two weeks, either week on/week off or part-time every week. Your CE payment will be assessed against your OFP(sic) (should read OPF) in the same way as earnings are assessed; the first €146.50 of your CE income will be disregarded and only half the balance will be assessed.

You will retain all the 'secondary benefits' which you were getting before going onto CE provided your total income is below €317.43 per week"

When receiving one parent family payment there is a ceiling to the number of hours your can work in a week without affecting your claim. Your best bet would be to either check out www.welfare.ie or go to your local Citzens Information Centre. I've always found them extremely helpful.
