No they cannot use human toothpaste on dogs because very poisonous not only to humans ( who know not to swallow paste) but especially to dogs ( who don't know not to swallow paste), but if you want to listen to any idiot out there then I hope you have enough money for detox. Good Luck to you and your poor dog.

Hi, I work for a Vets and you do need to get a toothpaste for dogs and cats. Human toothpaste contains Flouride which our pets cannot tolerate.

The toothpaste can be bought from any Pet Shop or Vets and is fairly cheap. You only need to use a small bit once a day.

Best wishes,

Sandie

Despite what you have been told by others - the answer is no you can't use human toothpaste.

Human toothpaste foams up in the dogs mouth and they can't spit it out so they find the experience unpleasant. In addition some of the active ingredients in human toothpaste is harmful to dogs.

You can get dog toothpaste from Veterinary outlets. They are usually enzyme based and come in flavours that the dogs find palatable.

They are designed to be swallowed and are completely harmless unlike some of the ignorant people who give completely incorrect answers.

Yes you can. I actually use a childrens mint toothpaste here in the UK called Milk Teeth for my dog. Stick to a mild mint, plain toothpaste, no fancy whitening or other stuff.

If your dogs teeth are really very bad, then you can get a scale and polish at your local vets which will help prevent gum disease.

The best way to keep your dogs teeth healthy is offer healthy chew snacks and toys.

It is the fluoride that is the problem. Go get the toothpaste made for dogs and read the label. It does not contain fluoride. Also the taste of pet toothpaste is adapted to their liking.

NO. Must use dog toothpaste. Human toothpaste has too much calcium in it and can cause electrlyte imbalances.

Get the correct paste. the human toothpaste is to strong for it's pallet, and the dog will respond with a bite, or if not , will sulk.

The sorbitol in human toothpaste is toxic to dogs.
Get a good quality rope toy...the ones that appear to be twisted string tied in a knot. Soak it in unsalted broth. Dry it in a very slow oven. she will try to chew all the falovor out of that, and it works as dental floss to keep her teeth clean, and her breath fresh.
If she grows tired, (couple of months)as the flavor is gone, just wash by hand, and re-soak.
