Circuit breakers can have either 1 or 2 breaks/pole.
A single break has a fixed contact portion and a movable contact portion. This type of break has to carry the whole of the breaking current.
A double break has the movable portion with contacts at either end breaking from two fixed contacts. This halves the breaking current.
