My boyfriend and I have been together for around 5 months and as far as he'll go is hugging and at the max, holding hands. He says he isn't into the 'mushy' stuff. What's going on?

If it's sex your asking about then he has either found someone else or turned to the other side.If not,then are you pushing him into a situation he feels uncomfortable about?.He may not be ready for the long haul just yet.Try talking to him about it in a nice way.
