I would like to know if there is anything i can put on the spots apart from calamine lotion as this seems to be having no effect. Also he is in a lot of pain with the ones in his mouth. Just rang doctors and she suggested try the chemist first. They are not open yet and am feeling very anxious seeing him in pain.

Poor thing. Hopefully the chemist is open by now. For the skin I used Aloe Vera Bio Active Gel on my kids, as well as calamine. Cool baths helped. Piriton for the itch. Not sure about the mouth, but you could try ice pops. And lots of calpol/nurofen of course. Hope he's over the worst soon. Hang on in there.

Aww poor little man. How about trying something like an ice lollly and then when the chemist opens get him some anbesol (the liquid form) which will help numb his mouth. It is safe as i have used it on my lad from when he was two, he damaged his teeth after falling. Also go to your doctors because they can give you something for your lad to help him with the pain. My son was about 6 months when he had chicken pox and i was given a medicine for him that helped him sleep which was absolutely fantastic. For the spots on his body a cold compress works but not for long. Good luck and I hope he is feeling better soon.

Chicken pox, also known as Varicella, is a highly contagious viral disease spread through direct contact with germs from someone’s cough or sneeze. Two weeks after exposure, chicken pox spots appear on the body.

Use bonjela mouth ointment after a mild saline mouthrinse.Works really well and children like its taste. Also this is ice-cream weather, don't waste it...it will also cool down the burning in his mouth..

The best stuff is benzydamine hydrochloride 0.15% mouthrinse - sold in UK as "Difflam". Lasts about 3-4 hours and it tastes sweet so kids won't find it too unpleasant.

Tylenol can help with the pain. Benedryl can help with the itching and may help him sleep. A cold drink (preferably water) with relieve the itching and help him stay hydrated. Make sure you read any drug labels before giving him any medications. If he is taking any other medications, please consult your doctor.
