No specifics or particulars, just war...or peace. I don't think there is any situation that justifies war. We tell our kids that fighting never solves anything, yet we go to war to try to solve our problems. Communication is, by far the most effective means of resolving personal conflicts, so, why not global ones? What if they attack us? Well, they have, and we retaliated in kind, and they are still attacking us. In our personal lives, we learn that retaliation only PERPETUATES the cycle of violence. Contrary to popular opinion, fighting back does NOT tell our enemies "We're not going to take it." Instead, it tells them that "We are willing to stoop to your level to maintain or regain our power over you." Natuarally, when we bomb 'em back, this incites further hatred and anger, and widens the rift between our cultures, perpetuating the endless cycle of war. We are all connected, and by returning their hatred with love we harness the power to break the cycle of war and acheive peace!

Ever notice what happens to kids who get picked on and do nothing? The harassment doesn't end, they are singled out as easy marks for bullies. They keep getting harassed until they snap and end up going on a shooting spree. You can say that we can always go to the UN to solve our problems, as a child might go to their parents. What happens when the parents think their child deserved it, or believe somehow that getting involved wouldn't be the best thing to do? There aren't as many options as you may think. Face it, some people in this world can't be reasoned with. Going to war isn't dragging ourselves down to their level, it's just talking to them in the only language they understand.

"An unjust peace that permits tranquility at the cost of one's dignity and sovereignty is not worth the blood, sweat, and tears that were spared to keep it. Such a condition is the shackles that make us slaves to the whims of others. True peace, being not only the absence of conflict, but the presence of justice and liberty, can not be granted by the mercy of one's enemies. It is borne of the hardships and sacrifices endured by those willing to fight and die for it. This peace is the only cause worthy of so arduous an effort, and the only reward worth so high a price." -- Me

Honey, it would be wonderful if communicating could resolve arguments between countries, but the facts of life are that it doesn't always work. With aggressor nations, the discussion often has to be preceded by war. Only through a greater show of force will some countries come to the bargaining table. Look at Japan during WWII. They would only consider peace talks after we dropped the H-Bomb on them.

As to the current war on terrorism. This isn't a case of bullies who just want to talk, for many of them, this is a Holy War (from their perspective). Radical Islam wants the entire world...including the US...to be Islamic. No amount of "communication" is going to resolve that basic issue. When it comes to the actual survival of a way of life, there aren't many options open to us except defeating those with that ideology.

prepare for war, pray for peace.
it would be wonderful if complicatd issues in the world could be solved with peaceful talks.
However, this ideal world really is not possible as people have traits like pride, greed, and anger which will not allow logic (peace) to win out.
what about the civil war? how would peaceful talks had resolved and prevented this bloody conflict? most likely some compromise that would lead to slavery still being legal in the south, maybe war was worth it.
or everyone's favorite: WWII w/ Hitler. was peace / negotiations an option? he was on a mission for world dominance and to rid it of "unfit" races + religions. the only option was to stop him physically.
peace can be used effectivly in some places, however war is a necessary evil to be used in dire situations

War it´s a business, that´s why the people with power choose the war and the rest like I don´t have a choice. Like Iraq after a illegal war with a lies behind the people still give support to a stupid and dangerous political and military movement. Because now not after you see a country in a civil war with a lot of terrorism and thousand of innocent dead (of course most of then Iraqis and don´t count, because are only numbers or in the worst case collateral damage). And Saddam was a tyrant but almost the same of the Saudi family or the president of Pakistan.

War...or Peace ? Depends on the situation, OK then how about Peace! Is there a problem with Peace, can you remember those days after we left Vietnam. Those years were great ,America was peaceful; the whole world was peaceful. If you review the history of world peace, we Americans are only noted for war. I've lived in America all my life and I never in my wildest dreams would have believed what I am seeing Americans buying from Mr. Bush and his pals.

When others declare a holy war well over 25 years ago... and we sit back & let them be...then they attack us repeatedly....I say it's time to defend oursleves...even if it means going there ,rather than letting bring it to our shores....
I'd rather our troops were here..this nation needs REAL men for all the ladies here who won't settle for a pansywaste whinner, who lives off his parents....
plus my fiance would be home & we'd be able to have the life we both want together...he's in Afghanistan....extended outr a week before his 1 year was up.... he's a medic,so he's needed there & that's what's most important.....

War is at times is necessary, as long as it is for the greater good.
Nothing wrong with peace.

"To secure peace is to prepare for war."

On a side note, *QeEn-BeE*, Bill Clinton did take us into conflicts, but not on the scale we are today.

Solmalia, Bosnia, and Kosovo.

remember these quotes.

"Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorius triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat."
-Theodore Roosevelt

"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."
-George Orwell

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

-- John Stuart Mill

"War never solved anything except for...

tyranny, slavery, oppression, fascism, communism, nazism, despotism, and we're working on terrorism."

But peace is much more preferred by the soldier
