it really depends on how long they sleep at night .my doctor told me that my 2 1/2 year old son needs 10-12 hours of sleep a day .and because he sleeps that long during the night that it was OK for him to stop naps. But some days his busy mind could use a good rest and i don't refuse him to take a nap

As long as you can -- enjoy your time -- your 6 year old is in school, and your 2 year old is sleeping
I try to treat myself to doing whatever it is I please in that 2-3 hour time alone...
But they do stop around 4 or so -- depending on the child, it may be like 3 or 3 1/2 --If your little one is still a great napper, and doesn't have trouble going down during the day, then I say let her set her own pace. Just as long as she doesn't nap at 4pm, sleep until 6, then is up until 11 -- then you know it's time to cut out those naps!
Good luck!!

if your child has problems sleeping at night i would say no don't let them nap during the day, so by the end of the night they should just fall asleep...sometimes a well need nap will keep them well adjusted and balanced...just remember that a nap is not 4-5 hours its only like an hour or two, dont let them make it to be a whole day...if i knew now that i would be working long days and hours i would have napped more as a child.

Keep the nap going as long as possible...I don't know about you but that's when I get things done without "helpers"! What we have in our house is "flop time" which means that after lunch everyone (but Mom) has to flop somewhere for at least an hour. Even my 8 year old will still do this and take the time to read a book or something. Everyone needs for their body to have a bit of down time during the day...if they fall asleep that's fine if not just settle them with a quiet activity. Our rule is no feet on the floor!

Good luck

I suppose when she stops getting cranky during the day from not having a nap. I'm sure you'll know when to stop. Every child is different. I have one friend with a 2 yr old who still takes naps, and a friend with one who doesn't. It's all dependent on the individual child and what their parents feel is right for them.

it will be different for each child. if her nap isn't disturbing her night time sleep then there is no reason to stop it but if it means she isn't sleeping through the night i would try to wean her of the nap now. my son was about 2 1/2 when he stopped having a nap, it was something he started as he was just not tired at mid day anymore but he would be shattered by 4.30ish so i needed to find loads to do with him at that time coz if i ignored him for 2 minutes he would just drop off!!!

hmm. i don't have kids, but i worked in a preschool and all of the kids napped there, even in the 4/5-year-old class. I saw lots of kids who didn't nap though. Some grow out of it earlier than others... but most of the 2/3 year olds napped really well and needed it. :)

Dont stop her having a nap til she is ready to stop, If it is stopping her from going to sleep at night maybe try to get her to nap earlier or have a shorter nap.
only my oldest stopped napping by two and that was only because i had another baby and she didnt want to miss out

napping is essential for toddlers, especially at this time of year. if you find without a nap that your toddler is irritable mid to late afternoon then s/he still needs even rest time during the day. however, if children don't need to sleep, they wont!! obviously many factors decide if a nap (and length of nap) is needed on a particular day, amount of sleep the night before, rate of activity throughout the day or even just the effects of the weather.

Its different for each kid but usually around the age of 3 they dont need a nap anymore each day. But they still may need one when the day has been busy, or when they start going to school for the first time. just watch your kid, does she get tired in the afternoon, or does she lie awake all the time during her nap?
