Sounds like the cat may have had very little interaction with people and what it did get was not positive and loving. Love and affection need to be learned at an early age. It just takes time.

I have a 6 year old cat like that. Any little thing she jumps and runs to the room. She loves me I must say. Somethimes when I am just sitting on the couch or laying down she comes to me and I give her as much love and affection as I can possilbly do. About 3 years ago I thought she needed a friend so I got another cat. She can't stand him. She gets very aggressive with him. I also thing she was abused in the pet shop. Damn those people. Just give her alot of attention and love. I found something she does like that you can try with your cat. I got it from Target. It is a cardboard scratching board and it comes with some catnip. She really loves it and she turns into a totally different cat. It is like 10 dollars. not expensive and last for about a month. Try it and I hope it works. Good Luck

Just the kitty time to ajust to her surroundings do not push her on the company you have over if she was abused she will be withdrawn from people just show her that when she is with you there is nothing but positive and love . One thing i found my cats love to play with is a cat light those laser kitty toys they love chasing the light around perhaps this would be a good toy for your kitty because its not threatening to her maybe she is afriad of cat toys in general i would try this it could also be a great way to gain some more trust with her. Hope this helps Raven

have patience and try not to force kitty to play with toys, as kitty gets older, it will play with toys. Wechave cats that are afraid of others. Especially our boy, he has never been abused, we are just private people and never had folks running in and out and no kids of our own. He goes into asthma attacks when noises scare him, he has extreme noise phobia and this happens with strangers too. Nothing can be done, just hope your kitty grows out of it. You should never make noise, like slap hands together to stop kitten from doing something you don't want it to and never squirt water in it's face. My cat is 6 years old and getting worse. i keep medicine around from the vet, yours is still young, give it time and ask for some devine intervention. I need some as well as we are going to take a 7 hour trip and our babies are going because they are afraid of everyone and both need daily medication and nobody else can give it to them. Our brother says they will have their own room with us while we visit.

well... my cat is the same but i dont really see it as a problem. it's like a part of her personality so I'd rather provide her lots of hiding places around the house (some of which even I pretend not to be aware of) rather than attempt to reverse her into a social type of cat.
about people that come to the house - the ones that come often, she eventually gets used to and does not hide. it takes time though.

i would say to try and feed her in a high traffic area of your house while petting and talking to her and when ready to feed try a cat call .so that she might get used to coming out when called.also try a cat house or something she can climb.in living area.maybe this will help her hide and feel comfortable at the same time.p.s.always give lots of love.and talk to the cat she'll listen.

definitely i know what this is about. i have a stray in my home and a cat i adopted from a shelter. you have to give the cat time to adjust. i know it seems like enough time has passed for you and your husband, but a cat is tiny and everything is so big to her. she'll come out in time. believe me. my cat angel was sorta like that too. :) hopefully i helped and might have earned 10 points in the process for my experinced answer! :) take care and God bless!

well, maybe, but heck that is the wsrong answere,
ALL CATS ARE DIFFERENT, I FOUND A KITTEN ONCE AND GAVE IT TO A MAN I KNOW FOUR YHEARS AGO, AND HE SAYS EXACTLY THE SAME AS YOU, HE IS OR SHE IS OK WITH HIM, BUT VISITIORS,SHE HIDES AND DOES NOT COME OUT EVER WITHOUT EXCEPTIOM,,
WITH YOU IF SHE IS NOT SHY TRY TO KEEP FINDING A TOY AND BE PATIENT, BUT AS TO TRAIN CATS,?????//
I HAD AN ARGUMENT ONCE WITH SOMEONE WHO SAID CATS ARE SMARTER THAN DOGS, ETC,
AND HE SAID CATS WERE STUPID,,TINEY BRAINS ETC, BUT I BELIEVE THAT WHEN GOD DESIGNED CATS, HE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT HE WAS DOING, THEY ARE UNIQUE, THEY HAVE AWESOME ABILITIES, AND THEY
WERE NOT DESIGNED TO BE PEOPLE, SOME TIMES WE WANT OUR ANIMALS, DOGS AND CATS TO DO WHAT MAKES US FEEL GOOD, BUT THE TRUTH IS THE INDEPENDENCE, VAIRIES, THEY ARE ALLL DIFFERENT, SOME WILD, SOME NEEDY, LIKE DOGS, AND SOME ARE JUST ??????????????/ mayhbe if you got another cat it would have a pal i dont know good luck.

well, one things for sure.you need a lot of patience.if the cat was abused, she was taught to be afraid of humans.sometimes theres nothing you can do.but you should try and get her used to people slowly.you dont want people crowding her at once.....it will only make matters worse.
