Just like any other ways of communicating, it could be better or worse. E-mail, cellphones, IM, and other new communication technologies are very convenient -- this way it's better than a hand-written letter sent by a horse-riding mailman. Communication and its goodness does not depend mostly upon how you communicate, but upon the person you are communicating with. Worse people, even with best communicating skills and technologies are making communicating either by any means worse as well. I hope that made sense.

Sending communications does not signify a strength in communicating! I personally feel as though as society evolves and becomes move technically complex that elocution and writing skills suffer. More time during education is allocated for sciences, computer skills, languages, and etc. and in turn other skills are sacrificed because of it.
If you would like evidence of this read letters sent home from American Revolutionary War soldiers or those in the American War Between the States......they are sheer poetry compared to the skills of today!

an entire generation can't be classified as better communicators as others... back when kids didnt have all these gadgets, some people were good talkers and some were not... same goes for today; some are good talkers and some are not. These gadgets don;t expand or decrease the mind's capability to communicate, just make it more convient to do so in different situations.

Overall, worse. They communicate more frequently but have a very poor quality of communication. I would love to see high school teens have to compose a handwritten letter with actual proper grammar and spelling as part of their testing to graduate from high school. No text message abbreviations or slang. I wonder what the graduation rate would be.
Example...the answer below mine.

I agree with you on that. I am a therapist and conduct classes on how children can better communicate with each other and their parents. I have found that many children as well as parents have indulged themselves in electronic activities and have become hypnotized by it. In turn, family values and activities are a thing of the past. I do believe that it is initially up to the parents to set the example. You should tell your children to put down the video game, turn off the computer and spend quality time getting to know who they are. Believe me parents are missing out on their children's lives by allowing the television, video games and computer to babysit them.

Having the best in life does not necessary make you the best. Likewise in communication, i think all of us need to learn how to express ourselves coherently, listen instead of just hearing. The experts term it as a skill and skill can be learn ed.

I guess it all depends on the quality of information they send or receive on those devices. Personally I love the technology, and it has made communication in my business 1,000 times better, but it has its drawbacks, worse communication however, is not one of them.

Much worse, teh slang and abbreviations they use are nowhere near proper spalling or grammar. They will find it hard to get jobs in the adult world where proper communication skills are crucial

Worse, because although communications make everything much more effective, I fear people are not reading enough to extend their vocabulary, knowledge, etc. I would say worse communicators.

Neither, just different. There is also a lot more to communicate and they are required to know a lot more to survive in a global world.
