Brush the dog more to help remove the dead hair. It's normal for them to shed a lot this time of year.

You can't stop a dog from shedding; it's part of the natural cycle of hair growth. Some breeds like Poodles don't shed, but they need to be clipped at the groomers every six to eight weeks.
A long-haired dog may shed its undercoat continuously if it's an indoor dog, and more in the Spring. Brush the dog daily with a good slicker brush.
Short-haired dogs like labs will shed a lot all year round. Get a shedding blade from the pet store - it's a mini version of the kind they use on horses. That will take out a lot of the loose hair.
To minimize shedding, make sure you are feeding a good quality food that is "nutritionally complete". I like Nutro - it has no "by products" and is reasonably priced. Have your vet check for intestinal worms - they can cause excessive shedding.
Don't bathe your dog too often - no more than once every three months unless he's rolled in something. When you do, use cool water. Warm or hot water baths make them shed more.
Other than that, get a Dyson vacuum!

Go to a farm and garden store or a store like Wal-Mart and go to the pets section. They make a pill called Brewer's Yeast. This is the best thing for a shedding dog. Better than the other medicines on the market for shedding hair. It also helps repel fleas, ticks and gives them a beautiful coat.

Get a special dog brush for shedding. It removes the undercoat so it does not fall out everywhere the dog goes. A good brushing once a week works great. You'll notice that you get less hair each time.

There is a product you can get to help cut down on shedding. But the best thing is to brush your dog daily while they are shedding heavily and at least 3 or more times a week regularly. This will help cut down on the shedding

Vacuum whatever is on the carpet and furniture, and sweep/dust anything off harder surfaces. If it's on small areas of clothing, you can get it off with a lint brush or a piece of duct tape.
Shedding, especially in large amounts, may also be a sign of malnutrition. Talk to your vet and see if you need to change dog foods.

Vacuum your dog.
Oh, not literally rolling it over him.
Pull off the attachment and use the long hose to suck the hair off.
