When I express these concerns SOME fellow Vets see me as a traitor almost, I'm very patriotic, I just dont agree with this war...has the military programed these people to the point as to believe its wrong to disagree with the government? Do they believe that all people should have the same beliefs? I wish all of our troops nothing but the best and want them all home safe...but I dont think my beliefs make me a "traitor"? What say you?

Well I spent 8 active with 2 tours and29 months in Korea and a year (1966-1967) in Vietnam and I know how you feel.

Most of the ones you talk about are conservative, who's view were molded by the service. I remember when I thought the president could do no wrong! LBJ and Nixon. Robert McNamara and Gen Westmoreland. What a F___g crock they were!

They way I look at it is the shrills on here never served a day in the service, never saw combat, never ate c-rations for months. Don't suffer from PTSD or are dying from agent Orange.

We earned our right and as far as I am concerned we gave them theirs. Without us they wouldn't have a country to fight over, and sometimes I winder whether it was even worth it! From the day we got home we were treated like shi~! and it continues. They have no respect or self respect. They weren't worth the people on that black wall or the rest of us!

They don't vote, they don't serve, they don't say a damn thing while their freedoms are taken from them, or from others. All they do is blame it on the press and liberals.

Can't be a Traitor, especially after what Bush has gotten away with being one, I can't believe people in the service or who were out would vote for a draft dodger.

You ignore those people. They hate everyone anyway. They don't talk issues, the spew venom. I wish I could take a few of them out to a hot LZ and leave them there!.

Iraq is wrong, Bush lied, we didn't go after the terrorism circumvented National law and are to this day. We went to war over greed and oil!

Bush's LATEST Lies!!! There are NO SECRET CAMPS and WE DON"T TORTURE! Anyone believe him?? I can't believe one is in Poland!

Thank you for your service, I'm a fellow vet also,(US Marines)I don't consider you a traitor, however If you are really concerned and wished the troops the "best" you would support them, See past the "bad" things the press reports and look at all the good things they have accomplished. We all want them home safe, but how about showing them support? You don't agree with the War, fine. but the majority of the Marines and soldiers over there do. Show your respect! for what they are doing! And by the way we have not had a terrorist attack in this country since 9-11. So I guess fighting them over there is working. What say you?

I just read some of the letters and emails printed in the current New Yorker, June 12th edition.

They express how the war is affecting the US troops. It is very painful. I wanted to cry. The war can not be "won."

You are not a traitor. You, we all, have been lied to by our government. And our children and grandchildren will get to pay for this war, with a lower standard of living.
The war is wrong. Many people agree with you.

Disagreement absolutely DOES NOT make you a traitor. (as a fellow veteran, I thank you for your service by the way) For sanity's sake, most servicemen I've known try to stay as far away from politics as possible. There being as many opinions as there are people, it can be fatal to a unit's morale for soldiers to dwell on their reasons for being where they're at. Political debate can be fun when at home; but in combat, it could lead to worry that the person may not be as "with us" as is needed when the bullets start. This may be at the root of the reaction you saw.--- Please know, though, I'm not criticising you at all. Debate and dissent is one of the things that make our country great. How else would one learn of other perspectives? If everyone always agreed, it'd be a narrow, dull existance.

you are right----- but if asked to help get the troops out i beleive you and i both would be there in a flash willing to die to help them get home.i hate war and violence but if they needed more people to get them home if they were surrounded and need help i know we would be there risking life and limb .to bring them home not put an end to the war notfor a few days to give them a break but to bring them home and it would only take a week or so and all the killing and dieing would be over .
Tell me i am wrong and then i will say you are a traitor and for that matter anyone that would not help in that scenario witch is the only reason i would go .i am more then willing to risk lives if saving another is the goal not to end terror or replace one dick with another dick but to try to save lives being held against there will if they are americans cause i beleive all americans would do the same for me (crazy me ) most americans would .
so i think we can safely say you are not a traitor but someone who has the right to disagree with the government on how to handle foriegn affairs and like all affairs it is better not to get them started at all.

what i think is wrong is all the dipshits who claim to support the war effort and the troops in the beginning, but then now they decide, it's wrong, it's not right. blah blah blah.

liberated two countries from oppresive governments and a harsh dictator, and terrorist regime. yeah, they did something wrong didn't they. in my view, you are a coward, and i don't think you deserve that time you spent in the military and whatever rank you took with it. I'm enlisting after graduation in the marine corps. I will fight because i know it's right in my heart, my eyes are not blinded by cnn, polls, or public opinion, I see what needs to be done and i will be part of it. as for you, maybe you should emigrate to some country just like iraq or afghanistan was, maybe lybia, or something like that, i'm sure you'll love the just and hospitable leadership. good night.

stating your opinion is being patriotic. I do think they sort of brain wash you while in the service, they want you to be detached from the real world of thinking and into a do as you're told mode of thinking. I sure as hell wouldn't run into a hail storm of bullets. But I do sincerely thank you for your service. I support the troops and hopethey return safely but do not support the war in Iraq. Afghan was a different situation.

No, you are not a traitor. I respect our troops and I am as grateful for their service and sacrifice as any. My son is one of those troops. But I am sickened by this war and ashamed of the self-righteous fool in the white house and all of those who blindly follow him.
Keep speaking out. Is appears that a lot of people are finally beginning to see what many of us have seen all along.

Thanks for your service.

I am a veteran of the US Army MP Corps, 1970-73, USAREUR and I totally agree with you.

I've also been called a traitor for my opposition the current administration policies, but I think it has more to do with right wing hate radio and tv than anything else.

You are a real patriot, patriots stand up for the constitution and there is no constitutional authority for the invasion and occupation of Iraq.

If you're a hero and courageous for saying it's a wrong war after you served what are the guys who are continuing to serve and believe in what they are doing?

Cowards and/or brainwashed dummies? I think not.

Don't knock a guy because they believe in what they are doing. What they are doing is honorable. They are indeed freeing two countries of tyranny and despotism.

It's a good thing we didn't have mass media or a timid people during the Revolution or we'd still be British subjects or we'd have left the beaches of Normandy and Europe would be speaking German or Russian.

"Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the tempestuous sea of liberty." Thomas Jefferson

That all said, thanks for your 12 years of service to the nation. And of course everyone is entitled to their opinion. That's what makes our country so great.

Your not a traitor. How could having your own opinion make you a traitor? Isn't that what soldiers in the past fought and died for? Our rights. You've earned the right to feel and say what you want. Thank-you for your service. God bless you.
