Keep in mind that your child is going to have to spend the next 90 or so years explaining the spelling and pronunciation of her name if you get too off the wall with it. I like the name, but I would keep the spelling traditional (Delaney), because having an unusual name is hard enough on a kid, let alone having to spell it to every person you meet.

I love the name Delaney...I think it's beautiful! I'm sort of a traditionalist when it comes to names, so I'd spell it either Delaney or Delanie. I prefer the spelling with a "y". No offense meant, so please don't take this the wrong way, but when I see people who have relatively "normal" names that are spelled differently, it looks sort of cheesy and cheap to me. The only exception would be Rebekah. (Biblical spelling)

I Prefer :
DELANEY
Gender: Masculine & Feminine
Usage: English
Pronounced: de-LAYN-ee [key]
From the Norman surname De l'aunaie meaning "from the alder grove" in French.
Take care and happy choosing
Dee

I like it! I know a guy with the last name Delaney. And that's how I'd spell it. Its the most simple, doesn't have the word "delay" in it, and its said exactly how its spelt.
