There are a couple of brands of paint that I like. American Tradition (Lowe's main paint brand) is good. Behr, from Home Depot is pretty good. Porter Paints has pretty good paint. And finally Pittsburgh paint is pretty good. I don't recommend getting a flat paint. Flat paint is cheaper, but it is really worth the extra money to get a Satin finish paint. It should tell you on the can of paint how many square feet it will cover, or ask the person in the paint department when you buy your paint. It also partly depends on the texture of your wall and the color you are trying to paint over. Some colors are harder to paint over than others.
Also remember to get the correct thickness of roller. The more texture your wall has, the thicker of roller you need so it is easier to paint.

Most 1 gal paint cans cover 400 sq ft, so you would need about 3. This will depend on if you are having to apply multiple coats. As far as brands go, you get what you pay for. Pay more money, and you will have better paint coverage and longevity.

Are you going 2 coats? If so thats 1800 sq. ft which means you will need 5 gallons. 400 sq feet a gallon.
Don't buy 2.5 gallons buy 3 if only going 1 coat, cuz qts cost darn near much as a gallon.

All of my painting jobs I all ways use BEHR brand paint. Unless their is a severe color change one coat will do. You will need to look on the can for coverage area, but it don't see it taking more than 3 gal. Don't forget to paint the ceiling first. Good Luck

One gallon per room depending on the color. If it's an apartment I'm guessing it's a white or off white color since most managers don't allow color. Be sure to check your lease. If this is the case, three gallons should be fine.

This will vary depending on the paint. The area which can be covered will be shown on the side of the can.

depends on what kind of wall it's covering, the paint currently on it..and the color you plan on painting.
most paints that you get from any hardware store, or even walmart are going to be good enough to get the job done..
