Yes - that is a severe issue in many third word countries like China. Millions of damaged Monitors and electronic components are dumped in land-fills without proper disposal. These equipments has high mercury and lead content. This causes contamination of ground water and eventualy the drinking water. Mercury is a slow killer that affects the brain. Mercury can also contaminate the fish and other food products.
