If Microsoft says 512 megs of RAM then they mean 1 gig. Microsoft always under rates what their software can do. Always, always double Microsoft's requirements. They do this so they can make as much money as they can off of us. Remember when XP was first released they said 256 megs of RAM. Can you imagine running XP at only 256? Worse they tried to tell us that 98 would run on 32 megs when it was first released. I can just only guess how much fun that computer would have been to use. So no do not try it as it will be a waste of your time.

Dear,

It must be difficult to install the Vista Version of Windows(The earlier WIndows Longhorn Version ). However If you are intersted in being a professional, You can try it out to install in a 256 MB RAM.Purely if you are not intersted in getting some sort of thrill to find a sucess in do so,It would be a mere wasting time.

Similar thing too happend, We have installed Windows XP in PII(Pentium II ) Machine. It took 2 days to install completely. Our team got a good coverage in some international magazines too.

But It not the processer its the RAM. SO its almost an 90% sure that your attempt can be a failure.

Hey one more thing,The RAM is getting much less costlier evry day,Buy one,And discover what is new in Vista.(I dont know what Microsoft is preaching about Vista).

Best of Luck......

if it is asking for 512 mb of memory and you only have 256 it will not run on your computer if you do get it to load you are going to have nothing but problems error after error it would be a waste of time to try it if you want to get Vista then I think you better first upgrade your memory on your computer :) hope this helps

It's not just a question of how much RAM you have in your machine. There are a lot of other factors to consider like graphics support etc. What you can do to find out if your hardware meets the necessary requirements is to run their compatibility program. A word of warning: It only runs on Win XP with .NET framework installed.

Hey, that's how Bill and his cronies work!

Personally, I use a Mac.

Don't bother. 256mb is barely enough to run XP, never mind Vista.
