You're right, but the greedy, narrow minded conservatives want everything for themselves - and are too short sighted to see what contributions the immigrant labor force has made.

Wellllll. It's a stickey problem. Thing about illegal immigrants being "illegal" is that they have no recourse with the labor industry rules. They'll be paid a pittance compared to a legal resident. Many employers simply could not afford to pay what a legal worker would demand. (without jacking up their prices). It's a sad truth, but having a "slave class" labor pool is actually GOOD for the economy. And remember, even were there a ligitamacy induced increase to the tax base, it's our "fearless leaders" who're spending that money. They don't have a good track record for responsible spending when it comes to our tax $

No, it wouldn't.
Of course you can't have a mass deportation either.
Gather the ones that have been here the longest and send them to whichever country they came from. Do this every month for about 10 years.
Americans (the ones already here, and the newly arrived legal immigrants) will absorb the jobs.
These illegals are NOT doing work Americans WON'T DO. They are doing work Americans WILL do, but not for the wage offered.
Americans will gladly take the jobs offered for a decent wage, and all American's life-skills/wages/standards will improve.
If there is a shortage of workers....Hmmmm, maybe welfare recipients will have to work for their subsidies.

anyone who uses this argument has not looked at the tax laws. Most illegals hold very low paying jobs and have many kids, have you heard of earned income credit? These people will not pay taxes they will draw more off than they put in. No Amnesty, give them 5yrs guest workers and void the anchor babies. After 5 years they can apply either for citizenship or another guest worker card.

Reward for law breaking, that is what amnesty is. Personally, as a citizen of this country, if we are going to reward and forgive the breaking of our laws, then I will demand the same treatment. A speeding ticket is less serious than sneaking in here illegally, but we sure as heck don't get amnesty do we?

No why should they get special treatment, their are thousands waiting in line to get in here, and they are doing it the right way, we already did that in the 80's and they just kept coming. they have no right to get amnesty just because the crossed the border, or they had an anchor baby. when you give amnesty your giving it to other illegals also not just Mexicans. 800 thousand a year come illegally form other countries. That's not fair to the ones that did it the right way and are still waiting.

No, because then you will have MORE illegals coming in to fill the void left by those who got amnesty, and are now demanding higher wages..... It did not work before, and I see no reason that will change this time. Amnesty is not the solution.

No. If illegal workers become legal, they'll suddenly be paying taxes and need higher wages to get buy. The employers won't want to pay the higher wages, creating a market for even MORE illegal immigrants.

That sounds like a great plan. Until it's time to file income taxes. How many do you think will actually make enough to end up owing at the end of the year? Not as many who will get a full refund + Unearned Credit.

What kind of message does that send to all the people around the world who want to become citizens? Get inside our borders however you can and you're home free.
A move like that would encourage a huge wave of immigration that we could never absorb. There's a reason we have a yearly immigration quota.

Even when they are being paid under the table they are contributing to the economy. Heck, the underground drug industry is a HUGE contribution to the economy; it is one of the government's biggest secrets. However, they would be contributing more to society if they were paying taxes, that is true.
