Sometimes I want to go off and do stuff without having to watch my son, but his father thinks this is selfish. I love my son, OF COURSE i do, so that's why i'm asking. I don't think it's wrong to want some time to myself, but what's everyone else's opinions?

No it is not wrong. I have been a mother for over 14 years, and sometimes we are better parents after we have had some time alone. We all need a break sometime.

No, it's not wrong. I think it's become a huge misconception that you have to be around your baby 24-7. Here's the thing.. you need you time. No matter what the situation is.. work, relationships, raising a kid, school..whatever. You can do it 24 hours a day and not feel burnt out. You need down time, and need time to be just you and be able to think of nothing else but what is going on at that moment.
Too me, I think that better parents are those that also focus on being a happy person, not just a good parent. I see those parents that don't make time for themselves, and they get short tempered, and frustrated very easily, b/c they are worn out and stressed.

Nothing wrong with that in the least. We ALL need time to ourselves. I reinterate ALL, including your husband. I would be willing to bet that HE gets time to himself, even if it's just in the car on the way home from work. Why does he believe your need to be a selfish one? Is he there non-stop when not at work?

Children are a blessing, yes. But children will also make ya wanna pull your hair out. Needing time to one's self does NOT mean they are a bad person/parent. It's the "me" time that keeps people balanced.

Not at all. I am a stay at home dad and there are times i just need to chill out. Everyone does. Let the dad try to do the same thing for a week or more and see if he needs any time out of the house. Good luck!

Your not selfish. You should have some time to do what ever you want to do that you can't do with him. Getting out, once in awhile it will keep you from feeling trapped. His father should watch him.

I think that parents NEED time away from their children in order to be better parents. It's not selfish at all. As long as it's not too often, it's beneficial to your son.

It's not selfish, it's mental first aid. Your husband just doesn't want the responsibility of watching his son by himself.

You MUST have some time to yourself! It's normal to feel guilty. But you will BOTH benefit from time apart from each other. Good luck.

No! You deserve and require time to do something you enjoy. You are able to refresh and be a better parent because of it. I believe children need breaks from their parents as well. I bet your son's father has time to himself and so should you.
