Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling,
Calling for you and for me;
See, on the portals He’s waiting and watching,
Watching for you and for me.

Refrain

Come home, come home,
You who are weary, come home;
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,
Calling, O sinner, come home!

Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading,
Pleading for you and for me?
Why should we linger and heed not His mercies,
Mercies for you and for me?

Refrain

Time is now fleeting, the moments are passing,
Passing from you and from me;
Shadows are gathering, deathbeds are coming,
Coming for you and for me.

Refrain

O for the wonderful love He has promised,
Promised for you and for me!
Though we have sinned, He has mercy and pardon,
Pardon for you and for me.

Refrain

It's a beautiful song with a beautiful promise. I feel very blessed that I was able to learn all those wonderful hymns as a child in church. While I do believe that the trend of singing mostly choruses has allowed us as a church body to reach greater levels of worship , we are making a mistake in allowing these hymns to be forgotten. There is so much knowledge and depth of God in these songs plus the comfort these songs bring that I'm afraid kids today will miss dearly if we continue this trend.

"Softly and Tenderly" is a beautiful hymn.

Anything that offers the invitation to Christ is beautiful...I also like a few other traditional hymns like:

- My Jesus I Love Thee
- Sweet Hour of Prayer
- I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say
- Just As I Am
- I Surrender All
- When I Survey the Wondrous Cross

In actual fact, there are alot of traditonal hymns that have very beautifully expressed words/lyrics...Thank you for reminding us of how "timeless" God's music is.

I also like modern Christian stuff too, btw.

God Bless.

I love all Gospel music. I have about 500 old albums of nothing but Gospel. You name the song or performer, I probably have it.

I also have a Web Site that I have on favorites. See below. You might find your listed song on that site.

Never heard it! Sounds good! I'm curious why it didn't say that now we are RIGHTEOUS in Christ Jesus! So many times i see songs and people commented on how we are all sinners! Saved by Grace!(we were sinners til we become born again) Now we are Righteous in Christ! RIGHTEOUSNESS IS WANT WE NEED TO REMIND US CHRISTIANS WE ARE!

It's always been one of my favorites. One of the first songs I ever learned to play well on the piano. Now I'm trying to learn it on guitar. I think the words are even more beautiful spoken rather than sung though.

I don't think I've ever heard it, but songs about Heaven and God's promises that He is holding for us give me so much peace and assurance. Motivation to work hard now and rest eternally.
Thanks for sharing.

yeah, sounds like a good song... is this a newer song or old one?

personally, im kind of sick of all the old christian music, like audio adrenaline and all those other gospel singers that are still constantly played on most christian radio stations

That is my all time favorite hymn. It applies to both saved and unsaved because we are all sinners.
