Unless you are planning to do sightseeing or ride with a friend, for your sanity, and for the sake of time, take the flight. Driving places could be risky if you have an older car, and you have to remember that mileage on your car, plus gas, and probably an oil change sooner than usual, may cost more than your plane ticket. Try expedia.com for flights, and then whatever flight is cheapest, go to their website, and most of the time it's like $5 cheaper to buy from the airline.

Either way, have a fun trip. If you drive, be sure to be prepared with plenty of travel supplies, including stuff to take a nap in your car and make sure your spare tire is properly inflated and you have all the tools to change your tire, plus extra gas and probably a quart of oil, a flashlight, and a tire pressure gauge.

I used to drive from Nashville, TN to Detroit, MI and back to visit a friend of mine twice a year. It was nice to have my car when I got there, but it was way nicer to get there earlier, after only an hour and a half of flying, and not be so tired! Plus, it takes 2 days off my transit, so I can spend more of my time off actually hanging out, instead of driving there and back.

In general for one person, it's cheaper to fly IF you book in advance.

If you drive not only do you have to pay almost $3.00 a gallon, but must remember the wear and tear on the car. Then is your time worth anything? Not only will you be driving for 23 hours but will need time to recoup. Don't forget the down time for fueling and eating.

On the other hand, the more people who are traveling, the cheaper it gets for driving.

Depends on where you are going. I drove from Las Vegas to Atlanta and with Hotel, I spent less than $500. Going out there, with a small Uhaul trailer and the maintenance on my car before a long trip cost me $1200. But coming back, I didnt have the trailer, just a packed down car.

It depends on where you are going and how far in advanced you are making your reservation. It could be cheaper to fly, and a heck of a lot faster. I would take the ease of flying over driving depending on where you were going.

Look up or call to find out the cost of the ticket. Then take the miles to and from your destination and multiply that by the price of gas. If your trip is in some time in the future I would add a few cents to the price.

Then compare those prices. Either way, it's going to be kinda expensive, and probably not much different in price. You might want to just do whichever you are more comfortable with.

We drove from CT to FL, 5 of us and was cheaper driving plus we got to see things we had never seen before, its very interesting but if its only couple of you or so i would just fly. Remember the cost of gas is rising and depending also what kind of car you are driving would make the difference. So stop & think....Good luck and enjoy your trip either way.

Probably, fly. I had this same question, a while back. I found a great airfare at Kayak.com.

You have to take into consideration the wear and tear on your car, not to mention that you are going to feel awful for the first day or so of your visit.

Fly, baby, fly!
