Is it good for kids to go to pre-school when they are two, three or four? Is it good for them because they socialize with other kids and learn new stuff or is it bad for them and they should stay home with their mom? When is it appropriate for kids to go to pre-school? What would dr. Laura say?

I teach 3-year-old kindergarten at a preschool,
If you don't HAVE TO send your child to daycare/preschool because you don't work then I believe it's great to keep your child home with you. But I think it's a good idea to introduce them to the daycare setting between 2 and 3 years old (especially if they are not used to being away from you).
I know I'm going to get blasted for suggesting starting them out at such a young age, but hear me out.
Lots of preschool/daycare centers offer part-time care or mother's day out programs.
Part-time care would be a few hours a day (usually between 8am and noon) and can be every day of the week or three or four (like mon, wed, fridays or some other configuration)
A mother's day out program is usually just one day a week but is from 8am through the afternoon. giving Mom a whole day to herself.
Just because you put your child in a preschool program doesn't mean you're dropping them off somewhere at 6 in the morning and leaving them there until 6 at night.
Every mother deserves a little time to herself and every child deserves the opportunity to interact with other children, make friends and learn that the world outside of their home is not a scary place.

I think when a child shows interest its a good time to start. So weather its 3 or 4 years its great. I would not send a 2 year old to preschool. I think preschool is great for kids because if you walk into a kindergarten class now they are learning to read and not knowing their ABC's and 123's can hold them back. I would recomend atleast 1 year, 2 if the child is ready. Goodluck

Explore many different preschools first of all to find when THEY accept the child. Second, a good preschool will invite your child to stay and observe them to see if the child is ready for them. I had to work anyway, so my child could either be at a sitter's house in front of the TV or in a group of kids her age learning something - anything - even a silly song. She loved it and she adapted to Kinder very well. There's usually a part time program also, so you can try it out for awhile.

I have 4 kids , 15 months apart in age, and i always thought I would keep my kids home till they had to goto school in 1st grade, and maybe even homeschool, but I ended up sending my 1st two kids to school at 5 in kindergarden public school, then my other 2 seemed very interested in starting school. i kept telling myself they have each other and their socialization skills are just fine, but a couple of years ago my inlaws said they would pay for the 2 younger ones to attend pre-k if I would bring them, so I did . it was from 8:30am -12pm. it was pre-k 2,3,&4. I think its the best thing I ever did. they have lots of friends and they loved school . i think they really learned alot more than if I would of kept them at home. i now wish i would of sent the other ones before kindergarden. good luck and God bless.

My son has been is preschool since 2 1/2, he is 4 1/2 now. You will get arguments both sides of this. Its up to what is best for your child. If you choose to stay at home, make sure he interacts with other kids his/her age to develop socially.
