You can walk most of it if you are in good shape. It's hot in the summer though. You'll want to plan for long lines outside at places such as the Washington Monument. On Constitution Ave. fairly near the Lincoln Memorial, tucked behind the trees is a giant statue of Albert Einstein. It's a great photo spot and it's shady too. Most people never see it. Also, if you can afford it, make a reservation for dinner at the Key Bridge Marriott which is just across the river/bridge from the Georgetown area of D.C. The view of DC is fantastic from there. Try eating lunch at the Old Ebbitt restaurant, just around the corner from the White House. It's an historic restaurant frequented by alot of politicians. You might see someone politically famous there.

Most of the monuments are within walking distance; however, the FDR and a couple others are farthur away. You can walk just about anywhere in downtown DC providing you are wearing comfortable shoes.

Yes...it's all pretty close...but bring your walking shoes and bottled water. If you need to use the bathroom, all of the museums are free and have facilities. Be careful and stay alert...this is a BIG city with all that entails!
