The death of Al-Zarqawi will only make a small, brief difference. Cutting off the head of the leader will cause disorder for a brief moment. That means until the terrorists groups in Iraq could find a way to restore their leadership, then some significant changes can be made (which means they will have to be made fast). Once the leader is killed, the next wave of attacks will come, retalitory first. Once a head is cut off, another one will replace it. That's how those terrorists work. So, yes it'll make a difference (small, brief one that is) and yes, another evil s.o.b. will take his place.

Will it make a difference? If it does, it won't be for the better. There will probably be more suicide bombings and more civilians kidnapped & beheaded. It would have made for better press if they'd had a squad of Army Rangers take him out with small arms fire. Dropping bombs on him from 20,000 feet makes it look like we were too afraid of him to take him any other way. And really, isn't the whole thing about good press?

Actually, from the reports, it was two 500 lb. bombs, but whats a bomb here or there. I think he was taken previously, and they released it today to make Bush look good, after loosing on the gay marriage ban. I'm curious to see what will be the next trade off to get the immigration bill passed. Bin Laden perhaps?
Also, those people have hated westerners for a long time, and there will always be another terrorist waiting to kill westerners. There are several generations of them in the middle east, just waiting to kill us.
It seems that it is in their nature to kill other human beings. They kill for their religion, they kill because their camel was unfaithfull, they kill for any reason. They don't even respect themselves.

It'll make a difference, but not be the "magic" solution many seem to want. Zarqawi was a galvanizing figure, and was good at organisation. Without him, the risistance, and terrorists there no longer have as big an idealogue to follow. AND, with ole Z's last residence being his safehouse; folks there'll start referring to that place as a "not very safe" house. (to quote Conan O'brian)

You know how terrorists work. There will be another low life scum to take his place. But hey it is pretty cool. That the guy got a bomb dropped on him. I'd say he did get off lucky. Too bad he didn't get to suffer a little before he died.

There will be others to take his place because a lot of innocent people died with him and that will fuel the need for revenge.

There is always more evil to replace evil, but we can not quit trying to defeat them. Take our victory while we have it.
