The position of Pastor of a church is one of having authority over other men in the church.
1Ti 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
1Co 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
*How can a woman be a Pastor and not take authority over men??
She could teach women, preach the gospel, evangelize, teach children, but Pastor would require her to be in authority over men.
There were no men priests in the OT or men Apostles in the NT. The Bible doesn't allow for this. Now this is only for churches that are Bible churches, Religions that follow other teachings can do anything that they want, so if the Bible is the guide, no, but if there is some other teaching then whatever they choose.

There are some biblical passages which suggest that women should not "usurp" the authority of men. One would do well to remember, though, that those instructions were given to believers who were trying to spread the faith among cultures who had little or no respect for women (remember "chattel"?). The suggestion was probably a warning to believers not to enter a cultural group and turn everything upside down, lest their message not be heard above the culture shock.

In the contemporary western world, where we have come to respect women as the equals of men in the "pouring on of the spirit" department, these warnings are hardly necessary. There are always those, however, who will abuse the scriptures, looking among them for ways to subjugate, rather than free, others.

As for the Apostle Paul's statement which has often been translated "Women should not be allowed to speak in church," we have been given years upon years of mistranslation (see comment above concerning subjugation). In this statement, Paul uses a Greek term "lalein," which never appears anywhere else in koine greek. This word has often been translated "speak," but the more likely meaning would read something like, "Women should not be allowed to LA in church."

Think that sounds funny? Have you ever seen footage of emotional or religious gatherings of women in the near east, when many women at once begin chanting "LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA" in a high-pitched, loud voice? Of course the Apostle Paul would have discouraged this practice, because it would have distracted worshippers, taking attention away from the Word of God.

There's nothing wrong with women being pastors. In fact, some of the most effective, intelligent, caring, spiritual pastors I have known are women. Those women will not be found in churches where the efforts of Bible study are wasted on finding proof-texts to reject women in ministry!

I grew up in a church that Pastor was a woman. Her daughter took over when she retired. My mother as well as myself are called to preach. I don't believe that there is discrimination in the bible that opposes women preachers and pastors. In Acts chapter 2 v17 the bible says that "it will come to pass in the last days, I will pour out my spirit, upon all flesh, and your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions and your old men will dream dreams. There are many other passages in the Word, that call women as teachers and pastors,. It is a great study!
There are many people who misinterpret Paul's teaching on women in the church, that they are to remain silent. They don't fully study the hermeneutics of the period. I hope this helps.
be blessed!

I used to think only men could be the pastors, but then a Lutheran pastor in our town had another"calling" so this of course brought another pastor in. Pastor Jenny as she is called is a wonderful pastor. I'm not Lutheran but I'm close to people who are and I was very skeptical of her. I believe, in my opinion, that she is more effective than many of the pastors or deacons etc., that I've listened to in my life. She's in her 40's, has two teenage daughters (poor woman) and is welcome in my home any time. As far as a woman preaching the word of God in the Bible goes, here's what I've found....

Philippians 4:3 And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life.

That's about as close as I can come to the Bible saying anything about women teaching the word of God. I think I may have learned something with your question. I hope I have helped you.

God did not call women to be pastors

A bishop in the Bible is a pastor. God never wanted women to marry women. God has plenty of work for a woman to do but being a pastor is not one of them.

1Ti 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

Wrong? No. Leaving aside why anyone, not least women, would want the job, it must surely be irrelevant what the bible might or might not say about this issue. Its texts were written by men hundreds of years ago in largely sexist societies - their frame of acceptable convention is totally out of synch with modern living.

If we must have religion as a crutch for those incapable of thinking for themselves, let it at least conduct itself in a socially acceptable, fair manner, fit for the 21st century.

Apparently, there are those who think "god" (whatever that is) is male. Proof? Haven't seen any personally, but I'm told you have to talk to "him" to really understand...and that's never going to happen!!!! I only converse with something that can give an intelligent response...any response come to think of it!!!

No, it's not wrong. Many women are called to be pastors. God annoints them, uses them and blesses them too. I know several women who God has used to win thousands to Him as well as deciple people. But even if a woman becomes a pastor only to touch one life for God, is it not worth it?

No, it isn't wrong. There should be no powerplay as to who can or who cannot teach. Why should there be insecurity? There are verses that say either way. It's religion we're talking about, and I don't see why we should be afraid of women having that position, or any other for that matter. We are all human.
