Some times, not always, a travel agent can get you a better deal than you will be able to find on your own. Some agencies are contracted with air and only allowed to sell air in a package, so their air may be a little more expensive. Sometimes it is a good idea to just get the air on your own, but depending on the situation the more expensive air may have some "safety" features that make it worth it.

I have used my current agent for 3 or 4 years now and I have been so happy with her. Sometimes she costs a little more than if I booked it on my own, but I cannot tell you how many times she has helped me out in different situations. I had to take a commercial flight for a trip recently and the airlines completely changed my flight times. I was basically losing two days of my trip because of the change. She was able to get the airlines to change my air to a better flight for no change fee. So, is that worth the little extra money on a trip once and awhile, for me, absolutely.

A travel agent will give you knowledge, advice, tips, etc. that you cannot get with the "online discounters" like Expedia and Orbitz. The big thing is that an agent is always there for you. From what I have found Expedia, Orbitz, etc. are more than happy to help you book the trip, but when there is a problem, then suddenly you aren't important. My agent is there for me no matter what it is I need.

My travel agent is so great that I would be willing to pay twice the cost of my trip just to use her. Once you use a good travel agent, that specializes in your destination, you will discover how nice it is and how much stress is removed over planning the trip on your own.

For my, my travel agent is priceless, I would never consider booking anywhere else.

I used to own a travel agency. The airlines cutting out commissions and internet prices put me out of business. Travel agents usually don't charge to book a trip for you. They do charge extra just to book airline tickets.

Sometimes a travel agent can find you a better deal than the internet. The plus to a travel agent is that you have someone to talk to in person that may have been where you are going and can give you lots of tips and pointers of things to see and do. A web sight may tell you how wonderful a hotel is, but a travel agent that has been there can tell you if it really is or not.

If something goes wrong with your vacation, you can always go back to your travel agent and try to get sastisfaction. I don't know if you get many results complaining to a website.

You can't go wrong with an experienced travel agent. By the way, the Bahamas are beautiful.

Always, always shop around and compare. Some agencies can most certainly save you money. You can also plan your trip on the internet travel sites. Once again, shop and compare. There are some tricks too but it depends on what kind of traveling you are planning.

I work for Yahoo Travel, and Orbitz, and Cheaptickets. It will be worth your while to compare prices.... but most of all, READ the fine print on the cancellation policies. Most airlines are non-refundable, and some hotels are non-refundable as well. Best wishes on your trip!
