I just started this Q & A thing. I've Noticed that crap loads of self proclaimed atheist quote the Bible and say absurd things like God condones rape and slavery, and they claim it's in the Bible, but they never say where. I've studied the Bible for years and I've never seen a verse where God says it's okay to rape people. Where is your reference? The Bible is a pretty big book. These people have never read it, they just say things thy've heard here. I could say the the Book "War and Peace" condones Rape...(It's 700 pages long) Whould you beleive me just because I say it?

I agree with you 100% Many of the morons who proclaim their atheistism have no idea what the bible has to say. Also, so many say that Christians twist the meanings of the scriptures to say what they want to hear. The the Atheist are 10 times worse. The ones that actually do read the Bible can take an absolutely beautiful verse and twist it into something Hannis. They are also notorious for taking things out of context, and picking one verse out of a complete story to bash. It is also very interesting that some of these Atheist spends so much time reading the bible...that's the real kicker. I have absolutely no interest in Pagan Cults, I do not believe and don't care too. I leave it at that. I don't read their books, and challenge their beliefs, I just ignore it. Most of the proclaimed Atheist on this Q&A challange and read the Bible because they want to beleive in God, they just need our help to get on the right path. As you can see there are more athesist crawling on the spirtuality and religion section than Christians. If they didn't crave the Good News, they wouln'd follow this section.

The Bible mentions slavery many many times, below I link an interesting website and it cites many verses in both the old and new testament. Unfortunetly, the Bible is pretty tolerant of slavery take this for example.

Ephesians 6:5-9: "Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free. And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him."

As far as rape, there is the famous story of Lot offering the crowd in Sodom, his two daughters so they will not harm his guests, I'm sure his daughters weren't too keen to be handed to the wanton crowd.

For other citations I couldn't find a great source except the one I'll link below, I don't particularly agree with the site, but the quotes are there to check in your own Bible nonetheless.

Well, it's because they cannot prove it. Many things that people say here you should DEFINITELY take with a grain of salt. Just because someone tells you something, it should not be taken for truth ESPECIALLY without reference. The Bible does not condone rape. Those who say this may need to reevaluate their thoughts.

And to Johnny Zondo -- in ancient times, homosexuality was looked down upon in such a way that it was considered a crime. Homosexuality WAS just one of MANY reasons to be stoned. Just because this happened, it does not mean they were in the right... You may want to check up on the story of a prostitute who was about to be stoned, but Jesus stopped this because her sin was no more than those who were stoning her... Please don't be so quick to judge things without checking up on them.

My Pastor tells everyone not to believe what he says, but to look it up for themselves.

Matthew 7:7
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

1 John 4
1Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
4Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
5They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.

6We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
