wow, that seems like a very good point. and other people's answeres just strengthen that the things that people say seem are obvoulsy evil, probably aren't because that is not the devil's style. Like they think the crazy rockbands are evil and stuff. And the people who dress weird. But they aren't really cuzz evil is much more elusive. Like if I am going to smuggle drugs through the airport Im not going to dress "suspiciously" I won't have blue hair, and black clothes and stuff. so when I do dress like that people should just leave me the $@#@ alone.
And you don't get any bonus points for being kind and mercifull to those who are your friends, and whorship you either. It even says that in the bible. Everyone is nice to their friends. So when gods nice to the people that praise him and stuff,, so what? Both of the are pridefull. I still don't see what makes god's pride better than anyone else's.

Well, the serpent in the Garden of Eden is often regarded as being the devil, so by tempting Eve he caused all the hardships of humanity to be enacted by God. For God had told them to not eat of the Tree of Knowledge, "for on that day you shall know death." or some such.

So, the devil pretty much forced God's hand, and is ultimately to blame, for his deception caused our severance from the grace of God.

But if we examine further, we see that the Humans were the ones who ate the apple, and thus are responsible for the consequences. It all depends on who you want to blame.

The Catholic church has never been the only Chrisitian group, and there exist other Gospels called the Gnostic Gospels, many of which wer found at Nag Hamadi, in Egypt. The early church, that would become the Catholic Church, suppressed these gnostic gospels for they ran counter to the teacings of the church association, some of them quite blatantly painting the creator God as evil, stupid and stubborn, and making the Serpent good and truthful, for he reveals knowledge of good and evil, and the reason they hide from God is they are afraid of him. There were a multitude of Gnostic beliefs and that is part of the reason they did not survive, the differnt schools did not support one another, and were often much harder to understand than Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, check it out.

You are right terra the devil is small compared to God..But his job is to deceive...so although he is not the strongest cherub angel he was the one who conned the 1/3 of the ones who are stronger than him...

By the way to the questioner..I didn't see anybody else post this scripture(s)...I know it wasn't because they didn't know ..but I will post it...

! Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: that's the devil

surely you have God all wrong..but I will say this ...don't let your way of thinking keep you from entering the kingdom of heaven...because the devil will show you just how loving he can be to you in hell...he loves you....to torment you that is...Choose life..through Jesus Christ he died for you so you would not have to die and go to a devils hell...

another thing..pharoah didn't repent truly of his ways or sin..he did that ..like some people..as a show but was not sincere..you might ask how can I say that ?..because God is eternal ..and he knew that pharoah was not going to let the people go...
He didn't know God and was not going to obey him
Exodus 5:2 And Pharaoh said, Who is the Lord, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the Lord, neither will I let Israel go.

you know the story ...Even after pharoah supposedly let the people go..Exodus 14:5 And it was told the king of Egypt that the people fled: and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was turned against the people, and they said, Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us? vs 9 But the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baalzephon.

.he sent his army to retrieve them...how do you think they ended up drowning in the first place..
Exodus 14:28 And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them..He sent them(pharoah did)..so in reality...Pharoah was responsible for all those people dieing
another thing:
Gods jealousy is this:....Isaiah 42:8 I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. God has done all that you see and know this is his creation...he has by his magnificent power created all things ..He has given you life and breath...and he deserves praises and thanksgiving for doing it...it is his glory and honor...and he will not allow another to take his glory

How would you feel if you had done a great work and someone something else gets the credit....

The problem is ..you fail to equate spiritual things and natural things....what you know as a human being God sees in a totally different way...so before you think you know his way I would approach him in a different way...
he loves you enough to come iin the flesh and die for you...God bless

To Julia in Miami: How is it that the bible quotes showing "God" to be evil, sadistic, jealous, etc. are taken out of context, but any that show "God" being good are true? Why must one be ignored for the other? That's illogical. If somebody murdered an old woman, you wouldn't refuse to judge him because he had done good things all throughout the rest of his life.

And to the person directly below me, if you had actually read Job, then I question your critical thinking skills, considering that a kind and loving god would never allow Satan to do those things to anybody.

I'm afraid that you are taking tiny snippets of the Bible -- ones that suit your purposes -- to cast God in a bad light. In so doing, you are ignoring vast portions of other Bible sections which clearly and abundantly show God's love and mercy.

As for the devil not hating or killing anybody as noted in the Bible -- you should be aware that the devil's style is much more subtle. That's part of his charm. That's how he tries to trick people.

Perhaps a review of Genesis might be in order: God created perfection; Satan, a minor angel was jealous and prideful and wanted what God had and attempted to obtain it. God didn't waste His time casting Satan out of Heaven, He had a minor angel do it for Him.

Satan then used deception and lies to trick Eve into eating of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.

A reading of the book of Job will also show you that in another attempt by Satan to try to have victory over God, he challenged God to prove Job's faithfulness. God gave Satan permission to do anything he wanted to Job except to touch or hurt Job in anyway. Fully up to the challenge, Satan not God, destroyed Job's family, his wealth and his life as he knew it, yet Job never lost faith in God. Indeed, God rewarded Job by providing Job with all he had lost and more.

These are just two examples of God's love.

Can you show me in the Bible where Satan loved God's children this way?

Well said AMDG. There's your answer. The devil did all of those things to Job and his family. And for continuing to be obedient to God, what happened? God blessed Job many times over, with way more than he had before.

Let me ask you this? If God is the creator, and with your question we have to assume He is, can He not have the freedom to do with His creation as He pleases? As for jealousy, is it wrong for God to want us to love and worship only Him(that's the reason He created us)?

Yeah, Satanism makes a lot more sense. I don't belong to either faith myself.

I just wanted to add that there is a really great Satanist group that does a lot of community work. They recently raised over five thousand dollars that will go to feed the homeless. Every year they do a canned food drive, and the Baptist church comes and harasses people who go to donate cans, an African-American woman from the church spat on someone because of it. I just think its ironic.

my very very own view is that God hides from us intentionally. I recommend, if he's God, he would desire to easily look contained in the sky and let us know stuff. Then there could be no question approximately it. 'whats up, abortion is erroneous! did no longer you hear God final Tuesday?' yet particularly, if he exists in any respect (this is yet another argument) he for sure could particularly have us determine stuff out for ourselves. He supplies us the psychological ability to try this, which i think of is a superb present day. He additionally supplies us serious colleges so that it is going to understand as quickly as we are being bamboozled. yet some human beings purely like to be bamboozled. consequently, ALL theology is tentative and speculative. that could be a philosophy in keeping with issues that would no longer be widely used! ALL religious doctrine is synthetic, for those that purely would desire to have solutions. human beings who prefer the inquiries to the solutions are no longer great fanatics of 'mandatory' doctrines. I even have studied the Bible and that i think of that is attractive purely on the point of literature. yet its been edited, censored, redacted, rearranged, chosen, etc. for hundreds of years. the suited variations we've are copies of copies of translations of translations. For the 1st few millennia it grew to become into copied by using hand and variations have been presented, the two by using mistake and on purpose, some small and diffused and a few vast and ignorable. The 4 thoughts of the life of Jesus have been written a minimum of 70 years after Jesus lived, by using people who in no way actually knew or observed him, in a language he did no longer even talk! If God grew to become into relatively attempting to communicate to us, to bare truths to us, do no longer you think of he would desire to do extra constructive than that? BTW, Jesus' descent into hell isn't contained in the Bible, that is 'classic'.

You ask "Where the mercy?". Well, the mercy is that the Almighty creator of this universe feeds you every day and allows you to blaspheme his holy character in a public place like Yahoo Answers without blasting you out of existence. How's that for mercy?

Put on your own thinking cap and consider that for a moment. If you were God Almighty and people were constantly ungrateful for your gracious provision and they even went beyond that and cursed you and made fun of you, do you think that You might be tempted to do something like.....Oh, maybe cut off their air supply for about a minute while you looked down from Heaven and said

"Having a little trouble cursing me are you? ....hmmm....maybe I'll just keep you from breathing for a little bit longer and see if you develop a sudden gratitude for all that I provide for you."

But God isn't like that. As it is written and you would be wise to take heed of when you get it in your finite human mind to seek to analyze and criticize the infinite God of all creation:

Do you suppose, O man--you who judge those who do such things and yet do them yourself--that you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed. He will render to each one according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury. Romans 2:3-8
