Well for the most part you are right. People want 2 points so they say whatever comes to mind, others though may speak from experience. It's the person asking the question that needs to go seek professional help, regardless of what answers they receive.

For the same reason that Geico needs a talking gecko. For entertainment. It is a billion dollar industry and sometimes out of many bad answers, there may be 1 brilliant answer.
Yesterday a woman was saying that no one loved her and asked why she should not kill herself. She got 29 answers in 11 minutes. So I answer and say "if no one loves you how come you get 29 answers in 11 minutes when no one else gets that. That means you are very loved."

All the answers on this site are not stupid. Amidst the coal you may find a diamond if you search hard enough. Any intelligent person would thoroughly research any advice they are given before following it. Try being a little more open minded.

Not all of the answers posted here are garbage, but you are correct in that there is a lot of bad information posted. The vast majority of the questions can be answered with a simple Google or Yahoo search.
My personal favorites are the "Help, my child or pet are dying?!? What should I do?!?" Take them to the doctor or vet dumb-***!

Very good question, and yes it can be dangerous in cases you mentioned. Especially dangerous when people follow this advice after asking questions at a desperate time in their lives.

You always have the option of adding your advice to a question so the asker has many different viewpoints from which to choose. Personally, I think it's good that people ask questions as many, many, many people refuse to even accept the idea they don't know everything.

very true. you shouldn't take medical advice from here seriously. but it is kinda fun to answer questions about movies, cooking, and to take the surveys. it beats just sitting alone doing absolutely nothing in your house.

I agree ,
but it was not designed to be like this,
those that they know, not those that they think they know,
are supposed to tell their experiences,or their thought on
a subject, not even as an advice,....
and the one who asks ,can see some other alternatives...
in that area.THAT'S IT
