God-shaped hole, in the context that she meant it, I am assuming she was a Christian, is a metaphor for the part of the equilibrium that everyone tries to maintain that can only be filled by a personal relationship with God. Everything in the world changes and is temporary, and the only thing which you can put your trust in being stable and always there is God.
He created you to have a personal relationship with you, to fill this "God-shaped hole", he knows everything about you, he knows the number of hairs on your head, and he desires to enter into a personal loving relationship with you.

It comes from the writings of French Existentialist Jean-Paul Sartre, that human consciousness has a "God-shaped hole" -- a void "where God used to be" that we try to fill with material goods.
Because it remains essentially unplugged, has become a repository for all kinds of nonsense in the name of spirituality.
Some more religious people have turned it around to be "a human need that can only be filled by God."

a "God-shaped hole" is simply a term used to describe something that every person was born with, its just a place in your heart that can ONLY be filled by knowing God. Its a "gap" that many people try to fill with money, stuff, or whatever but really it can only be "filled" by God. Knowing that Jesus died on the cross for you and receiving salvation brings a joy and completion that NOTHING else can... nothing that the world has to offer can every satisfy that "God-shaped hole"

It's the awareness of an unanswered spiritual need for communion with God. An essential capacity of the human soul which demands fulfillment, and which can only be fulfilled by a living, nurturing relationship with Him. Without it there's a restless craving in one's heart, much like hunger. I think that's what drives the mockers and trolls (and they are certainly driven, as anyone can see) to attack us Christians and our faith on this q-a board.

Well, after reading a lot of these questions, I'm beginning to think it's the cavity beneath the skull, and God forgot to put brains in!.....Really sorry, just a joke, but seriously, I don't know what the God-shaped hole is.....Forgive me Lord, but my carnal mind couldn't resist.

The devil is a God-shaped hole. Put God, where the devil is, and presto! Many people feal their lives are meaningless, and void. They search for something to make life worthwhile. And frankly, without God, we all might as well go get drunk...

Its like the thing thats missing in your life.
Some people spend their lives filling it with all sorts of worldly pleasures. Relationships, drugs, other religions, money,addictions,...they try and they try to fill that 'hole' in their hearts but nothing seems to fill it fully.
God fills it fully. He is the final puzzle piece. He completes everything.

I don't know what it is but it sounds kind of interesting. What shape does God have? Have fun with all the people sending you to hell. That is always my favorite response.

I think it is the emptiness people feel which they try to fill with addictions, successes, distractions, etc....
It is the part of us that longs for healing, connection, freedom, peace and love.
