Tea cakes, cream puffs, finger sandwiches - for the kids and "heartier" filling sandwiches for the adults. Serve "tea" which is really apple juice or apple cider to the kids. If you have a bread maker, make a few batches of white bread that has been colored pink, yellow, blue - whatever colors that fit your decor. Serve baby carrots, cucumber slices, and celery sticks. Not to the birthday girl of course, she probably doesn't have that many teeth, but I'm assuming there will older kids too. I have never the whole movie through but if you have time, watch it yourself to get some ideas. Mrs Pot or whatever her name is... is why the "tea party" idea comes to me. Whatever you do, make and do as much ahead as possible so you can enjoy the party too! Have fun. *** although I have to say that spaghetti sure sounded like it would make some awfully cute pictures. ***

For my baby boy's first year we did a party together w/ my daugther it was 1 & 5 party.(Mickey & Cinderella) It came out so nice what i did was to decorate one table of Mickey & another of Cinderella & so on.
Since the colors where more less the same it look very nice. Since we have a big family I made Birsket , w/ green spagetti & mushed potatoe & for kids hot dogs & chicken nuggets. The green spagetti came out so good that everyone like it & so as the brisket (sweet brisket). But before the food i had nachos w/ cheese at all tables for the adults while the show was entertaining the kids. It came out so nice everyone had fun cuz the people from the show involved the parents to participate & they had fun too.
What you can do is buy some plastic or caton tiaras or crowns like pricess for all the girls & look for some stickers or any other little toy for boy's. Also what I did is on the invitation I put that girls can come out dress like princess & boys with a shirt of mickey mouse & most of the kids did. They looked so cute a dress up.
Well this were my ideas for mi kids party , hope some ideas can help you out . GOOD LUCK!!!& HAPPY 1st BIRTHDAY 2 your little girl!!! HAVE FUN!!!

Grill some chicken and dice it.
Steam some carrots and bell peppers (red, yellow, green)
Put out some salsa, sour cream
Put a foil wrapped package of tostada shells on the grill.
Mini faijata's (spelling impaired)
For desert use the tostada shells, cream cheese that has been blended with honey or strawberries, etc...and have fresh fruit wraps. You could dice up strawberries, mellons, bananas, kiwi, blueberries (cut in half), raspberries, etc....
The baby should be able to eat everything the adults eat -just not in the wrap form and it's all healthy for everyone.

Have trays of kid favorites like chicken nuggets, mac&cheese, pasta, diced fruit, tater tots, sliced veggies and dip.For the adults,I'm a big fan of making sandwiches along with potato salad, pasta salad. It's quick, easy, doesn't have to be expensive, and clean-up is easy. Also, you can never go wrong with baked ziti, meatballs, sausage and peppers, salad and bread. You could also have baked chicken with a vegetable medley and rice pilaf. If it is going to be outdoors, you could grill BBQ chicken, ribs and make shish-kabobs.Hot dogs and burgers for the kids. The food at a first birthday party really is for the adults anyway,so have fun with it!

i did this for my sons 1st party, i put cake mix, some chocolate and some vanilla, about half full in ice cream cones, baked untill cake rounds on top, test with a tooth pick, top with chocolate, and vanilla iceing and sprinkles. you will need to back in a muffin pan and place alumium foil on the side of each cone to hold it in place while in the oven, this seemed to be a big hit! ya know you can use a little food coloring in the vanilla iceing to make it really pretty.:) good luck and happy 1st birthday.

I was 9 when my brother turned 1 and we just had the family there! It was only my mom, dad, me, & my brother! I made the cake in one of my "bake-a-cake" ovens and we had that! We put him in his high chair with just a diaper on and let him have the first piece...it was SOOOO hilarious & messy! But we all had a good time & the pictures turned out great!

When My son was 1 we had a teddy bear themed party. I made him a teddy bear cake and put teddy bears all over the house. I made little bear paws out of construstion paper and made little paw prints coming up the walk way. It was fun!

I know this won't fit in with your theme but since I don't do themes, here goes.
It's summer - have a barbecue.
