I think it is better to get the mix. I have a bichon frise and she can be a real pain at times. I think you should at least wait until the pup is about 8 weeks to adopt it.
I love my dog sooooooooo much and i am soooo happy i got her.
Get a slicker brush and comb so you can groom her. Be very CAREFUL with the slicker brush 'cause if you scratch it's skin the pup would get hurt.
And bichons and maltese get mats so you have to brush them out everyday. And when they do get mats you have to brush the mats out down to the skin Bichons are very intelligent dogs.
I am not sure about the maltese but i have asked people about them and they have said they are very intelligent dogs also. My bichon is pretty energetic but shes only 1 so i expected her to be like that.
Bichons and maltese usually get this thing called Tear stains around their eyes and it is important to wash their mustaches with warm water and sometimes soap. And dry their mustaches with a dry cloth or paper towel or else it won't help their tear stains at all.
Most bichon and maltese books say that bichons and malteses should only get about 2 baths a year. I give my bichon a bath every 2 weeks or a month. And i get my bichon groomed about every 6 weeks.
I give my bichon a bath in my tub. (since shes so small) And i always use warm water. And if the maltese bichon you are getting is white i recomened using Hartz bluing shampoo for her.
Btw. Some bichons are hard to house train. But i am not sure about the maltese.
I hope that helped. And i really think you will enjoy having her.

There are some questions to ask yourself. If the breeder is in such a hurry to get rid of the pups,What kind of breeder is she? I have breed Chinese Shar Pei for many years and was never in a hurry to get rid of my pups. I have sold puppies at 4 months of age and had very happy buyers. They were house trained before going out the door, That dosent mean that I havent sold my pups at an earlier age. the youngest I sold my pups were 9 weeks old. Believe it or not, the parents have a lot to teach them. not all small dogs are yipey either. I have found them to be very devoted. But Take your time to find a good reputable breeder. Some times it is good to spend a little extra money for a dog also. My mom wanted a sheltie. I found her a five month old puppy from a great breeder for $700.00. She went and bought a 8 week old puppy from someone who wasnt so reputable for $250.00. Well The dog had so many problems with it, in the first 6 months, she spent over $3000.00 on it. And the Pup I picked out for her Turned champion in that time. So Do your homework.

I've adopted 2 mix bread dogs. They are the best behaved and sweetest dogs we've ever had. Much better dog than my pure breed yorkie or any of my pure breed poodles. I think yours would be an adorable mix. It will take a while to train it. Mine usually take about 3-6 months. I wouldn't hesitate on it. My guess is you'll have to have it groomed frequently. Congrats!

6 weeks isn't too early, but you'll obviously have to confine such a tiny critter to a bathroom or crate until he's old enough to know how to communicate with you.
What a wonderful mix. Just remember, it is a MIXED breed, so don't pay a fortune for it.
congratulations on the addition to your family. I hope he'll bring you a lot of joy!
( have 2 poodles, which are similar to both the bichon and maltese---I wouldn't trade my girls for anything)

well you should let it be like just a little older but thats not too bad but may be you should wait longer i know your excited to get it and hurry up but think about the puppy! it could die! just get a doggy book and wait a little tiny bit longer then it will be so ok you will thank yourself and whatever you do dont give it a stupid name that will make it worse if its a girl a girl name a boy a boy name and dont over feed it cause you might want to play with it and that causes it to be lazy and you need to find out about the puppy online cause they could be trouble you never know my sister got a pomeranian it was sweet when it was little but if your not around it like 24/7 it would loathe you and since we were black ppl it hated white ppl.... good luck with that!

6 wks is not to early no younger tho i have two of the and they are so easy, i get them a hair cut twice a year and thats about it, they are great watch dogs to believe it or not! very protective and very loving, they will give you that i love you look all the time. the other thing you have to watch wen they get older is there teeth, they tend to go yukky so give lots of raw bones to chew on at an early age. easyyyyy to train too !keep inside in the cold if you can, lots of warm bedding they love to cuddle and snuggle up.

DONT DO IT! They bark at everyone and everyting...they are hard to train to go the bathroom outdoors...my aunt has owned those dogs for 20 years...they are just yapping little lap dogs...I recommend a Doberman or a Collie....very smart, easy to work with.
