Wow...such a theologically challenging question!

NOT...especially since Atheism is a philosophical impossibility requiring that one have infinite knowledge in order to determine with CERTAINTY that an omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent Being who is Creator does not exist.

Well, it depends on how you look at it.

Since atheism is lack of belief in a god, do you have to have a concept of god before you can disbelieve in it? In other words, does atheism only exist because theism exists? I don't believe in Smurfs either, but do we need to coin an '-ism' to describe disbelief in Smurfs, seeing as no-one out there really believes in them?

Or course, the real question is: who was here first - people who believe in God or people who don't believe in God? This time the answer is easy (and certain) - definitely God was a concept that came about later. Our primitive ancestors certainly lived their lives with no consideration of a big man in the sky. That concept just developed over time. Sometimes ignorance is bliss :)

The IDEA of god came before atheists. God never came at all.

First there were atheists. They invented religion (god) in order to keep the other atheists in line. From then on, their descendants were the priests who ran the religions that kept everyone else in line. What an invention! It's still working. And, it's so lucrative. Who'd have thought when it was first invented that religion would become the most profitable industry in the world?

The concept of a god came first....if there weren't any theists there would be no reason for someone to say they are an atheist.

God always was ,is and always will be- an Atheist is according to dictionary person who denies the existence of any supreme being that reigns over humans and since God created man-God always will be and always was first.

I don't think anyone is born with the knowledge of god, therefore, atheists came first.

Definitely, Atheists.

In the beginning the world was void, and without form, and darkness lay upon the face of the deep.
And an Atheist said "Let there be light."

I think that's a big improvement over the usual creation myth.

In the beginning, there were atheists. Out of the void of their non-belief, God sprang out from Heisenberg's uncertainty principle.
