It depends on what airline you work for and if you want to join a union. Most major airlines are not hiring and you would have to start with a small commuter airline like Comair, ASA, Contiental Express Jet, American Eagle...etc. Airtran, Southwest, Sun Country and the smaller airlines are always hiring. The pro's of course is the free or almost free travel anywhere your airline flies or its partners. BUT its stand-by. To start its 3 weeks of unpaid traning and the first six months to a year you are on call. At first you will have to do a lot of flights to make much money. If you get on with an International carrier, only the senior FA's will get those flights. Everything is on senority when you bid for your schedule.
You also have to be someone who can deal with many different types of people. You have the snotty business traveler who wants the world handed to him on a silver platter. You have the bratty kids flying alone who run all over the airplane. You have the woman who tries to board the airplane with 5 carry on's and when you tell her to consolidate she threatens you. Then you have the nice people who sit down and shut up. Its a toss up. It can get old living out of a suitcase. But you do get to see alot...from the air.
Make sure you dont get motion sick. Certain jumpseats are facing backwards. You have to be able to reach the overhead bins, and although they say there are no longer weight restrictions, your height and weight must be perportionate, although I have seen some curvy FA's lately. There once was a day when you had to weigh in before your shift and if you were overweight, you couldnt work, luckily that has gone away.
I would have said becoming a Flight Attendant 10 or more years ago was worth it, but after working for an airline, its really more trouble than its worth if you are looking for longevity. As unstable as the airline industry is as a whole, have a back up plan, thats why Im no longer in the industry. tired of cutbacks.

First of all you must remember it is a job.
What you see on the average TV show, isn't the real world.
Do you like people?
Do you have a positive attitude?
Can you handle stress?
Can you handle the idea of being laid off?
Do you speak a second language?
Are you single, or have a very strong healthy relationship?
If you said yes to the above, it might be a good job for you.
A flight attendant is a cross between: customer service, waitress, and emergency worker.

i've known several friends to have made a good life while being flight attendants.
The travel, I'm sure, can be alluring, but remember that when you're on the job, you are WORKING off your a$$. You follow a work schedule, you get into ruts, you compete for shifts. I'm sure the job has its own BS that you have to deal with all the time.

The job pays well, especially if you are an international flight attendant. There are also added benefits like big discounts on air fare and hotel accommodations for you and your family.

i think for short term yes, you get to travel the world for free, meet interesting people and learn a lot about yourself and others, making you a better person in general. However i think for a lifetime career it can be quiet tough to travel so much and always be working in that environment. I dont know what the money is like. which country or airline are you thinking of? Some airlines offer better perks then others. But really i think you should do it for the travel prospects and do it while you are young and dont have afamily to be concerned with,
