WOW, so many answers already. But I still want to participate.
My husband cooks very well, even better than most restaurants. He didn't get any formal training to be a cook, but learn by doing. So I don't think all men can't cook.
Well, if you get sick and would like a cooked meal, try to show a simple recipe to the man for him to try. Who knows, he may like cooking.

I think the number one reason is that they haven't been taught to. Of course, from what I've seen of the kids recently, nobody knows how to cook.
In my family, the men have tended to be the best cooks. Most of us have ended up teaching our wives. But then we were taught how, beginning at an early age, upper elementary and junior high. My mother's mantra was, "You want to eat the rest of your life? You better learn how to cook, because I'm not going to be around forever." Both my father and his father were very good cooks also. We're not talking about haute cuisine here, nor hamburgers and hot dogs; we're talking about a variety of good everyday food.

This isn't necessarily true, all men can cook, however it depends on certain things.
All men can cook-they can heat up frozen meals in the microwave oven, for instance- but it's most likely that what you want is homecooked or an unknown recipe to the man cooking for you.
Your tastebuds are involved as well, the meal you want cooked is the meal you'll eat, right?
You can also call one of your girlfriends to get them to cook if you're against men cooking or something ;D

Men are great cooks - just ask my husband :). He tells me that the GREATEST CHEFS are men!
Joking aside, everybody can cook, if they have half-a-brain, can read and follow directions (cookbook).
If your husband does not know how to cook - time to start teaching him (nicely). Suggest that one day out of the weekend he cooks. Share. Don't be critical. Stay out of his way. Let him decide what it will be. Or if 4 times a month, to start with, is too much. Come up with a weekend a month..
If nothing else, if you get sick (and you are an American) you will get grilled foods (American men are great at grilling), pizza, beer and pretzels or takeout.
BUT don't assume he can't.

Because domestic cooking is housework, which many men consider beneath their masculine dignity. Being a chef is having a trade, which is paid work not housework and therefore acceptable for a 'proper' bloke.
Which is all complete bull****, cooking is the same work in a home kitchen as it is in a restaurant kitchen, but it feels different to a man because one is high status and the other is low status.

The greatest chefs in the world are men. You must just have a lazy man. My girlfriend insists that I cook for her because I know recipes that she doesn't. Get that man a cook book, honey.
