My friend got married in Vegas and said they ended up spending a lot of money and they probably would have spent the same amount doing a big wedding at home.

IThe reception is going to be in another othercity than vegas right? If that is the case its not corny to wear your wedding dress to your reception, but i would suggest that you wear something a little more toned down for the occasion since you will already be marrried. A classy dress or an expensive looking pants suit would do nicely. If the reception is directly after the ceremony, sure go ahead and wear your wedding dress.

Cool.
My sister and her husband eloped to Vegas, then spent the money they *would* have spent on the wedding on a really great party a little while later. We brought our wedding gifts to that reception-after-the-fact and everyone had a blast.
My husband and I eloped also, but not to Vegas, then we had a small reception at my new SIL house about 2 months later.

I think that is a great idea. Have a very nice reception after the stress is over. Enjoy your wedding. Where you gown at the reception too. You paid for it and you will look great so have some fun.
Blessings and good luck
