Usually the majority of the grain bill is malted barley. Depending on the style of the beer, adjuncts such as corn or rice or wheat may be added. For example, American Standard and American Premium may add rice and (or) corn. Hefewiesen is made with wheat as a large portion of the grain bill. Ultimately, traditional German beers are made according to the German Beer Purity law of 1516 (Reinheitsgebot) which states that beer must be made with only 4 ingredients: water, barley, hops and yeast.

Beer is USUALLY made from barley and hops.
SOMETIMES wheat is used in addition to barley to create "wheat beer" or Hefeweizen[1].
There has been some rumors about some beer companies going as low as to use corn in beer, but as far as i can tell this is not true.

Beer can be made from any grain, or actually any starch that can be converted to sugar (you could make potato beer). Traditionally, it is made from barley, and sometimes wheat. They have a good flavor. You can make beer out of rice or corn, but they have virtually no flavor. These are refered to as "adjuncts" and are used to cheaply increase alcohol content in some mass produced beers.

Traditionally neither. However some add wheat for certain 'wheat' beers and corn can be added as a cheap filler.

making home brew, I have discovered that beer is made from Barley malted hops and sugar. It's easiest to let the pro's make the malt that is used for the flavour, and have some very select yeast to ferment the wort ( pronounced 'wert') into the Brew that needs to age to perfection. The best commercial malt (and yeast that I have found, to date, is Cooper's Real Ale. Buy the Cooper's Brew Kit and you should also get a booklet with a brief history on Cooper's Beer.
