BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES
6 large cucumbers, sliced
4 onions, sliced
1/4 cup salt
1 pint white vinegar
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon celery seed
1 teaspoon mustard seed
Use fresh cucumbers; wash and slice. Slice onions. Mix vegetables with salt and let stand 1 hour.
Drain and rinse with 2 cups cold water. Combine vinegar, sugar, celery and mustard seeds and heat to boiling. Cook 3 minutes.
Pack vegetables into jars, add hot vinegar mixture, leaving 1/4" headspace. Seal at once and process in boiling water bath for 10 minutes.
Cool and store.

BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES RECIPE
4 pounds cucumbers (sliced)

5 cups sugar
4 cups white vinegar
2 tablespoons mustard seed
2 tablespoons. celery seed
1 1/2 teaspoons turmeric
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
Combine cucumbers, onions and salt. Cover with crushed
ice; Mix well. Let stand 3 hours. Drain. Rinse. Drain
again. In a large pot combine sugar, vinegar and seasonings.
Bring to a boil.
Add cucumber mixture. Return to a boil. Ladle into jars.
(Yield: 4 pints)

Not so much sweet as it is less pickled, the sour spices.
Like half dill and half sweet, hence Bread-N-Butter?
those made to fit sandwich one are sandwich toppers or other name, not the flavor.

It is named bread and butter pickle because it is thinly sliced to eat on buttered bread.

It is just a particular king of pickle. I don't know what it is soaked in. But I love them!!!!
