I have always liked school uniforms even when I was in high school, but we did not have them at my school. Also at my school the students had a voice in everything and when it came to a vote the students out numbered the teachers and parents and that was how it was set up to be.

Give the students a voice. School is supposed to be the time for them to learn how to be an adult. Give them the responsibility.
Also, don't just talk about wearing school uniforms give them some pictures of what the uniforms will look like. It always helps in the decisions. Remember to try to compromise. If they don't like the uniforms ask them how they could be better, so they would accept them more.

I wore uniforms to school from 8th-12th grade. I loved it! I liked it because I could get ready in 15min, I was never wondering if I wore the same thing the week before cause- I WAS! There is a misconception that kids can't still have their own style, or that they still can't pick out the underprivileged because you still can. I worked a job during and after high school that required that I dress up a little...I hated it. I begged my boss to give me a uniform. It's so much easier! My daughter will be going to a school that wears uniforms...

So YES, I think schools should require uniforms and should students have a voice in it? Maybe make suggestions but I think it should be approved by an adult.

Yes, students should wear uniforms.
It puts all kids at the same 'level' - you are not differentiated by what you wear or where you bought it. Uniforms do not 'stunt' individuality - only individuals do that. A student will be an individual by how he/she behaves, acts, excels or does not excel, is part of the team (i.e. classmates), etc...not by what they wear.

It is also a cost benefit to all involved. Parents (and kids) have more money to spend on 'fun' clothes.

Students should be involved once the decision is made. If the school is smart, they will get them involved in deciding what the uniform will be. It should be the colors of the school (school pride), that will look reasonably well on everybody (color, size, etc). Have a choice of slacks or skirt for girls. Must fit properly (not too tight or too lost). Easy to wash = no ironing involved if possible. And can be passed down to others in the family - without looking 'used'.

It is a WIN-WIN for everybody. You get home you change into YOUR clothes - your style. Don't have to worry what to wear the next day.

Yes, schools should have uniforms and students should have no voice in it. I am tired of seeing kids running and holding their pants up or young ladies with waist bands so low on their pants that they are not anywhere near their waist.

Kids have no clue what is appropriate for school and when kids go to school wearing the same thing they would to go to the beach -- halter tops, low cut jeans etc., it is distracting and in poor taste.

I teach in a uniform school and I hate it. The uniform is white shirts with blue bottoms. The kids wear their uniforms forever without washing them. It's disgusting. I just wish they would give them a few options. Maybe blue bottoms with a choice of white, red, or light blue shirts. I get tired of seeing the same "sea" of white and blue day after day.

i would personally love school uniforms. that way, every morning, i wouldnt have to think about what to wear

however, it would be nice to not be wearing like 3 layers of clothing and pants on a really hot day. there should be possible variations to change with the temperature.

students should have a voice about uniforms. that's how they learn about democracy. no, i don't think they should wear uniforms. we're Americans with freedom of choice. we're constantly giving up our freedoms one be one. we need to guard them. a lot of people cannot financially afford them, and no they don't receive the help they are promised.

Absolutely...especially for younger students...it takes the focus off the pressure to dress like you have a designer as a best friend and Bill Gates for a dad. It may cause them to focus on what they are in school for....an education. They can express themselves on the weekend.
