The sculptor who designed the Statue of Liberty was Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi. He got the idea for the statue in 1865 at a dinner party hosted by Edouard Rene Lefebvre de Laboulaye. Some think he sculpted it from his mother.
IT WAS BUILT IN FRANCE AND THEN IT WAS PRESENTED FOR THE AMERICANS ON THEIR INDEPENDENCE...

France and america were called by Laboulaye,"the two sisters". It was laboulaye's idea to build a monument for America. A man by the name of Bartholdi took this idea and some believe that his mother Charlotte Bartholdi, Was the model for the statue.

I do believe that it's because it's "Lady Liberty", based on some kind of Greek or Roman goddess... at least, that's what my American bf says!
