Congratulations on the decision to get a new family member!

Always check out www.petfinder.org for pets in shelters near your area. If you cannot find a pet through a local shelter then your next step is finding a responsible and ethical breeder. This is much harder than it sounds. The breeder should be most important thing to consider before buying a dog. Finding a good breeder will save you money and heartache.

Also visit the American Kennel Club website for a good list of breeders: www.akc.org

These are two REALLY GOOD links with tips on finding someone who has the welfare of the dogs in mind and are not out only to get your money.

Instead of going to a breeder, check out your local shelters. If you can't find any there, go to an alaskan Malamute RESCUE. Just search on google, you're bound to find one. Also search on Petfinder. Most of the time, if there isn't a rescue in your area but there is in a neighboring state, they are willing to adopt out to you. Rescues are cheaper than breeders, and more trustworthy.. with breeders, if you don't ask the right questions you might end up with a sick dog or giviing you rmoney to a bad person.
