My friend says that he has a chemical imbalance in the brain. Do the doctors discover this by a blood test? What kind of biological tests do they do on the person. X-rays? Seratonin measurement?

No, there is no blood test. It is done by symptoms and diagnosis.

Yes, there are blood tests or cerebro-spinal fluid tests to determine the balance of brain chemicals. Xrays wouldn't measure chemicals.
