I've been having a hard time finding a dog groomer. I took my puppy to petsmart and had a bad experience and refuse to go back. I found another groomer that I would have liked to try but I only want them to trim her and trim her nails. I don't want them to bathe her. When I called I told them that I would like to bathe her before I bring her in and I just need them to groom her. They refused to do this and I don't understand why. Considering the bad experience I had with the previous groomer, I would like to do all that I can on my own. I do not mind paying the full price. Why do you think they would not except this?

First of all I am sorry you had a bad experience at the groomers, but speaking bluntly you are not a professional and although you want to do whats best for your dog that would be finding a proper groomer who will form a loving bond with your pet.Depending on the breed most animals need to be groomed at least every 8-10 weeks. Most people with no experience end up leaving mats on the dog etc and it is extremely uncomfortable and then end up having to go to a groomer regardless.Find and talk to different groomers in your area, explain your situation and see if they will let you stay while your dog is being groomed then as your puppy becomes used to being groomed you could feel comfortable leaving her/him there. But it is a lifetime of grooming for some dogs and getting over the bad experience is paramount for your dogs happiness. They can also show you tips on grooming your pet at home between professional grooming and the proper tools to use for your dogs hair/coat.

I'd keep calling around until you find a cooperative groomer. There is no reason an owner couldn't bathe the dog first themselves. Try a mobile groomer with a van that comes to your house. Explain that you've had problems in the past and you'd like to be with the dog while the grooming is being done. If they say no, then don't use them.

some of the reasons why they like to bath them is because they would like to know what kind if hair your pet has. They can make a good asessment on what kind of conditioners and ect. to use so they can let you know whats best for your pet. Also some groomers cut before they shampoo.

I would think they would be happy to let you bathe her and let them do the rest. I would just keep calling around until you find someone that will work with you.
