To teach things like how to add and things that will be useful in life.. to teach the past our heritage and why we are who we are... It should not teach.. The teachers point of view on life.. it should teach the basics.. reading writ ting and arithmetic... not how to have sex.. it should teach how to read.. not how to read profanity... it should teach how to have manners ie: thank you and please... not I am my own person and I can do it my way no matter who it hurts.. It should teach all life's important things.. but not teach how to lie to a parent and have abortions behind the parents back with a teachers help... we are in trouble with our society.. because we forgot the basics.. we have teachers with bad views who are spreading profanity, abortion, sex, and other things.. but can't teach math, reading, science, and writing... go figure.... :(

The purpose of school is first to learn about subjects, but it's not that simple. A lot of times there is some idiot in the class that makes it difficult to learn, so learning how to act in in the classroom and learning how to learn is an important part of public education, too. Testing should be limited. There are way too many tests in school. The purpose of learning should be the act itself and not the test. Maybe students' actions should be taped to decide if students are learning what they have learned. A student project would be a lot better than a written test.

To produce citizens that can read, write, count change, balance a check book, and know the laws of the land.
Everything extra is for students with aptitudes. I don't think every kid needs to learn Algebra or Poetry. But the basics I listed above, all should learn.

How about instead of all the reading writing and arithmetic, they actually helped kids how to understand that people are good and all people should be treated with resepct and helping them understand that crime, violence and all the bad things in life is unacceptable.
How about we teach young kids they will be old one day too and should be patient with them.
How about teaching people to be able to smile and show them the world is about all the things above..

Help you learn things that can help you in your future career. Many things we do learn have no purpose in our future careers. For example, a requiremnt in my school is music and art appreciation, which I doubt will be needed in my future fields.
