We worried about SIDS with our first child, and she was a reflux baby. She hated sleeping on her back, so we put her car seat in her crib and let her sleep in there instead. After a few months, when she could roll over on her own, we started putting her straight into the crib and letting her sleep however she slept--usually on her belly.
We admitted that to our pediatrician, who laughed and admitted that HER daughter had been sleeping on her belly since day 1.
With our second daughter, we just let her sleep on her belly. And she was a champion sleeper.
I know it's a risk. And we'd feel horrible if something happened. But we'd feel horrible anyway, even if she HAD been sleeping on her back, and this way, at least, we'll all be well rested! :)

My grandson likes to sleep in his car seat. They just have an extra one for the house and when he's ready to sleep they put him in it and...lights out. During the night they put him in the crib on his back and he's usually OK. The concern about stomach sleeping is SIDS. The side is good too. I positioned my kids on the side with baby pillows at their back. Once they could roll over though, thats not good. Enjoy your beautiful daughter and try to get some sleep.

Babies in general *don't* sleep well on their backs. That's the idea. It isn't normal for a baby to sleep for long periods. It is a risk factor for SIDS. By putting babies down in a position that encourages frequent night waking, you are keeping them alive. Logs, you might note, are inanimate objects. I hope your baby doesn't *really* sleep like one; it would be a terrible tragedy!

No, I put my babies on their stomach also. They never sleep well on their backs. My son started rolling over at night and I would have to roll him back over so he could go to sleep. This happened a lot at night for a couple of days and then he stopped. I guess he was tired of it too. lol

My son never slept on his back after coming home from the hospital. When I did but him on his back he would startle awake. He slept next to me for seven months until he began crawling so I knew he was okay to be on his own and not suffocate. Now he sleeps in all kinds of positions.

My youngest would not sleep on her back. So after a healthy check with the doctor she was okayed to sleep on her belly. I would check with your pedi. and if he says shes healthy... not preemie or problems with breathing. Then see if he says give it a go.

Mine slepts on his side. If I didn't put blankets to hold him up. He'd be up all night.
