I had a wisdom tooth removed on May 9th. In the past two days, I've noticed a black scab forming on top of my gum. It feels itchy. Will it come off on its own? How long will it take? Is it normal?

yes ,it is a blood clot... whatever you do,don't mes wiith it....if it comes out you will have what is called a "dry socket"...they will have to go in and make it blood again, using an instrument called a "curette",they normally do not numb it up.....another clot will form in the socket..and the healing will have ot start all over agin..

Yes it is completely normal, DO NOT try to do anything to get the scab to come off, not even itching it with your tongue, if the scab comes off before it's ready, you could get dry socket which is very painful, or worst case scenario - it could get infected. It will take at least a week to 10 days for you to notice the scar going away, by then you'll have forgotten about it.

Yes, its normal. You want that scab there so that the bone and gums heal properly so dont pull it off. Also dont drink thru a straw cuz that can pull the scab off and can cause dry socket--very very painful. Just leave it alone.

Leave it alone or you will get a painful condition known as dry socket. There has to be a blood clot in order for the hole in your gum to heal correctly.

Yes, it is, but it is soft and you should leave it alone. Swish with peroxide to prevent any infection.

Leave it alone. Call your dentist and ask them questions.
